Today Was Rough! Day 5 Of Pre Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 5 of my 12-day pre-up diet and down 4-lbs. Acutally, I've done quite well with no hungry except for day one. Today wasn't so good. It's my mom's birthday and we generally put up her tree. However, it wasn't the tree that made me crazy depressed...it was the Cookies, cake, and ice cream.

I could smell the cookies baking when I walked in the door. Yummy, but sad...sad because I wanted them so, but I stuck to my guns and said no to everything. Finally, I walked out the door and over to my house. I was preparing beef stock for after my surgery. I've been making stock every weekend for the last three weeks. It smelled soooo good. I guess you could say I have cheated by eating 1-cup of homemade stock every night. It's 30 calories and no fat and it's the best thing I eat all day.

Here's where I was bad...I finally couldn't take it any more and snitched a small piece of french bread (which really needs to leave my house) just to dip it in the homemade stock. That was all I needed. It calmed me down and got me over the loss of goodies.

I know this feeling will creep up again soon. I'm just not good with depression and self-pity. I've counted the bread in my food journal along with my feelings about it all. I have to say, my husband has been a trooper, although he was going to give me a small bit of his scrambled eggs with cheese. He knows I am strugglling with the loss of food. He know's I'm a foodie at heart, but he's trying to be there for me every step of the way.

I think you are doing great, pre-op diets are a pain but if you are over hunger already that is fantastic! What does your pre-op diet entails?

I'm with Paola, it sounds like you're doing great! I don't think you should be too hard on yourself about the bread. You've had a long term relationship with food and now you're breaking up. We all know breaking up is hard to do.

I feel your pain - a few days before my operation was scheduled, I filled my freezer with tasty things - not Cookies, smaller "sins" like baked eggplant cutlets covered in breadcrumbs, but I still couldn't touch them because I was afraid that my liver would be too fatty to operate.

I'd advise you to keep away from such harmful foods, but I realize it's hard to avoid family dinners and such just to refrain from having a close encounter with a cake.

Thank you. The hungry was at it's worst on the first day. The diet is simple. I had to purchase 2-weeks of supplemental food from Dr Boyce. I am allowed 6-supplements a day. It's mainly liquid except for the protien bar, protien chips, and Pasta

A general day looks like

  1. oatmeal Brown Sugar and Maple
  2. Beef or chicken Soup about 6-8 oz
  3. Protien Bar
  4. Pasta with Beef or chicken soup
  5. Protien shakes or pudding
  6. Protien chips

I got on the scale this morning, and I'm down another 3lbs. WOOHOO!

Guzel, that's exactly what it is...breaking up. It's that same type of loss. Thank you for pointing that out.

Estella...that made me laugh...the close encounter with food. I'll never forget my mom being on a diet many years ago and offering up herself to my dad if she could have more chicken. For years we teased her saying she was prostituting for poultry!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
