What Tastes Good Pureed?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting sleeved on the 19th. Thinking past the post op liquid diet to the puree diet. Any recommendations on pureed Proteins?

One of the best tasting purees I had was the inside of a soft taco from Taco Bell (minus almost all the lettuce). You can add more Protein by adding in some refried Beans as well.

My favorite was roast beef cooked in a crock pot and then pureed with the au jus. -Yum!

Refried Beans are great, and you can sneak little bits of extra Protein in there with some ground beef or some cheese. Even pureed this still tastes yummy.

Egg Face's Ricotta Bake does not require blending because it's already really soft, and it is DELICIOUS! My son and I still eat that sometimes. He puts his over Pasta, but it tastes just like lasagna and has no Pasta in it.

Wendy's chili is good pureed. If it's too spicy for you, you can always add a little Tomato sauce to it. You won't be able to eat/drink a whole small one, anyway.

Bean with bacon Soup was pretty good to me, and didn't really require a puree. I just mushed it up with my spoon, and I only ate a couple of ounces out of the whole can. You can thin it more with broth or Water and it hides the taste of unflavored Protein powder pretty well if you want a big Protein wallop.

I also pureed up some dinty moore beef stew..and, I'll be honest, I ate a couple of chunks of that meat without pureeing it, but I chewed REALLY well. One small can lasted me several days.

I used broth to puree up a little of the meat we had for dinner a couple of nights, although that tasted a little like baby food to me.

I've heard of people pureeing all kinds of things that I never would have thought about, from slices of pizza to turkey and dressing.

I bought a magic bullet specifically to use for post op blending and it worked out really well. We still use it sometiimes to make Protein shakes, so it was definitely money well spent, IMO.

Good luck!! :)

hi fellow sleevers

i'm pre-op DOS 12/15/11 - i have to admit the thought of pureed food makes me gag a little. I saw my NUT yesterday, she's the best, and she said not to think about the different food stages yet - After my 1rst 10 days of WLS - and drinking, sip, sip, sip - we'll be meeting again and talk about the next stage.

isn't cottage cheese, SF pudding, yogurt and Jello, SF popsicles and other stuff like that Kosher as mushy food?

again, the thought of putting real food in a blender....well i think i'd rather get my tooth pulled but if i have to eat more mushy stuff, well for this weight loss, i'll do anything.

I feel like I am planning for back when my kids first started eating..lol

Scrambled eggs, ricotta and refried Beans are awesome.

Black Beans, some meat and veggies is really good.

ricotta Tomato sauce and cheese is like the inside of a manicotti.

chicken salad is awesome so is tuna.

Also I don't put it on a blender I either cook to mush consistency and mash with a fork or use a food processor. Its exactly like making food for when your kids start eating solids..lol

My favorite puree was my homemade beef stew put through the food processor. Plenty of Protein with all the veggies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
