Question About Plateaus After Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I've noticed mine starting to slow down as well. Had my surgery Nov. 3rd and it's a really slow loss the past 3 weeks or so. Maybe a pound or two. I'm also able to eat more now and I've been working out in the gym the past 2 weeks as well. I'm trying to tell myself to just stay the course, which I will and make sure I do. Also, I'm now making sure I don't weigh myself more than once a week because I don't want to be obsessed with just the number (pounds). I can easily let that get the best of me and I will not let that happen. I don't know if this is the answer, but it's my plan. From what I've read on here, just stay the course, keep track of calories and don't obsess with the pounds. Good luck!

Hang in there. The scale will move again. Stalls do happen, but if you just stay on track, they will end. For me, the first one was the worst because everything was still new. Once I'd broken it, I found that when it happens again I can reassure myself that it will end. You might want to try taking measurements. I've found that sometimes when the scale isn't moving, I'm losing inches instead. For me, knowing that at least I'm getting smaller makes the stall a bit easier to endure.

I had my three week stall, and added in working out on the treadmill almost every day. That stall broke, but then I stalled again. I was going up and down the same three pounds when I had just broken into the 200's. My pulmonologist told me to ease up on the workouts and the weight would start dropping again. And, he was right! Since I've backed off the treadmill some, I am dropping again. Why? Because I'm not building up the muscle as fast as I was.

At my BMI, the muscle is important, but I want the pounds to come off. I DO NOT want 280 pounds of muscle! LOL OTOH, while I was working so hard, I could almost see the definition in my legs and butt getting better and I dropped 2 pants sizes, so there are pros and cons to each way of doing things! :)

Sounds about right to me. Don't worry too much, the scale will move again! Just stay positive and on the plan.

The dreaded 3-5 week stall strikes again!!

If you search the forum you will find every sleevers has experienced this slow down. It passes after 2 or 3 weeks. Don't worry, it will pass.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
