Why The Concern All Of A Sudden?

Recommended Posts

Okay, tell me why people are concerned all of a sudden, with how small I am getting and how much weight I have or plan to lose? Where was all that concern when I was tipping the scales at 298lbs.? That is when someone should have pulled me aside, citing concern for my health. And where I am weight wise I am by no means a "scare crow."

Telling me, men like a woman with a little meat on her bones is not going to con me into not losing anymore weight. Besides my husband, who is the only man that matters in my world, likes to pick his wife up and carry her off whenever he wants.

Pssss, and I will tell you a secret, I like that he can do that whenever he wants too. LOL!!!!!!

Have a great day sleeve family. Enjoy your successes and let the non-sense just roll off your back.

Yup, and I absolutely hate it when i'm eating something and someone says "are you allowed that?" or if someone sees me with my tiny dish of food, "Don't eat too much". . . errrrrrrrr i just want to slap them, but instead, I tell them "Well I've come this far without taking any advise from you" then I just laugh and walk off with my bowl. . . people can be soooooo ignorant. . . the other thing i totally hate is women trying to compete with me for whatever reason. . . get over it b00tch00s I already KNOW i'm better looking! hehehe

LOL. I love your post.

I think there are a few people who I will let pass on asking me questions on my food choices, just because they have been strong advocates in my struggle so far.

One a side note - thinoneday - I love your bunny tracker! AND I love that it says you have passed your goal! :D

I don't know how many times I've gotten the question asked in a weird leery voice "Are you feeling alright?", which apparently is code-speak for "Do you have cancer or something?".

I do for the most part appreciate the comments but dang, just come out and ask wouldja'! NO, I'm not sick just lost weight!

Funny, because had you always been the size you are now, no one would've come up to you asking if you were "feeling okay," or asking/telling you not to lose weight. It's like seeing the transformation has given them the right to be in your personal business. Stick and move, guys, stick and move!boxing.gif

lmao....I lovethis topic.

I get the "you're melting away right before our eyes" all the time. and EVERYONE wants to know how I lost all the weight.

I live in a small town where there are no secrets...if one person knows...the whole town knows...lol. so, I don't even lie about it, I just tell them I had weight loss surgery. (and give them the details if they ask.....they most all do ask..) Which then they all say...but you wer'nt that big........in which i reply...well, losing 70 lbs was 'BIG" to me.....

I feel lucky tho...I have never had anyone say a negative thing to me about what I did.....everyone has been so posative and encouraging. (unless it's all said behind my back, ....lol)

Keep up the great work everyone!

Donna

Here's what I enjoy. I recently started a new job and a group of us went out to lunch. We went to the local McDonald's and everyone was ordering their biggie meals. I ordered off the $1 menu and got a McDouble, a small fry and a bottle of Water. As we sat to year, I pulled the top bun off and started eating the burger. After a few minutes, one of the group asked the inevitable question and I answered that I had weight loss surgery and don't eat a lot at each meal and concentrate on the Protein. That started the "My (so and so) had that done and you've got to be careful because they gained all of their weight back" BS. IT amazes me how everyone knows someone that wasn't successful and yet they lump me in with that.

People would so rather have a sense of moral superiority than they need to possess.

I finally had someone question me on "can you eat that?" yesterday. I ate half of a small brownie that someone made at work, maybe one bite, and one of the salespeople asked me if I was "allowed" to eat that! LOL I explained to her that I am "allowed" to eat anything I want to eat, just not in large quantities. Privately I was thinking that I have barely hit 700 calories in weeks, so that one bite of brownie wasn't going to "blow" my calorie allowance, and I was right.

As for other women competing, I SO get that. One of my good friends is under five feet tall and normally weighs about 110-115. She's now on a "diet" and has lost 7 pounds or so. She tells me that her 7 pounds is "like" me losing 50 pounds, it's so hard! While I admire that she's trying to keep her weight where she wants it, it seems silly to me that she went on this diet at the same time I had surgery. She's also enrolled in a kick boxing class and has taken up jogging with her two daughters. I keep reminding myself that being healthier won't hurt her, but I hate the underlying competition I hear when she talks about this new lifestyle she's started.

Oh well, I suppose I should just be happy that I've inspired her to get her health back on track. :)

This is a great thread. These are just a few of the reasons I chose not to tell everyone. The constant attention on what I eat would make me crazy! And the only people who seem to be, "concerned" about my weight loss are my friends who are overweight. They never mentioned they had concerns when I was tipping the scales at 200 but now that I have lost weight they want to make sure I'm doing this in a healthy way. I just smile and say that I am happy and healthy :)

I had a girl at work last week come up to me and say "OMG you are getting so tiny!!" I said thanks, but I was thinking, really? I still weigh 276 pounds for God's sake, not tiny by any means. That coming from a girl who probably weighs maybe 150.

First off, I hate it when these skinny girls complain about being fat.

Second, it pisses me off when girls say "I wish I could get the surgery. It would make my life so much easier!"

Since when did surgery or the work afterwards become easy? Granted, losing weight is easier now than it ever was in the past. That, however, is relatively speaking. We still have to maintain our diets, our discipline, and our sanity. Goodness!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
