Gastric Sleeve Surgery Yesterday

Recommended Posts

I sip Water or anything it's acting like it gets half way down and stops. Then all of a sudden it makes this funny noise kinda like a burp and girgle and I can feel the sip go into my stomach. I'm on Clear Liquids for the next week. Anyone else experience this?

I haven't experienced it myself, but it sounds like you may still be swollen, especially since you were just sleeved (congrats by the way!). I don't know what size sips you are taking, but at first I literally had to take such small sips it was like I wasn't sipping at all. I just constantly had a little bit of Water in my mouth and I let it down very very slowly or I was very uncomfortable. If I take too big of a sip now (I am almost three months) I get that tight feeling, almost like it is getting stuck. I imagine it like a funnel, you can get the amount in but if you do it all at once it gets stuck for a moment.

I would also ask your doctor about it. You should be seeing him/her soon and if not it can't hurt to call. I have heard of people getting strictures (very rare). Besides, it can't hurt to ask to make sure.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
