Low Energy Since Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am 3 months out and currently weigh 225. I work full time. Since surgery, i have little to no energy. I take a Vitamin every day and B12 once a week . So tired every day which i know is having an effect on my weight loss because i am too exhausted to exercise. Any thoughts, tips and suggestions would be appreciated.

Could your Vitamin D levels be low? It's not uncommon this time of year (though perhaps you Texas have less of an issue that those of us in rainy Seattle!), and D can play a big factor in energy levels. Are you getting enough Protein? How's your caloric intake?

have you had your Iron checked? low iron could cause this as well.

Definitely get a blood workup to see if there are any problems with your Vitamins. Don't be afraid to take the B Vitamin every day too.

I had varying levels of exhaustion for months after surgery. I didn exercise at all because of it. I would say I didn't feel like I could exert myself very much until I got into the 6th month. I could walk at a leisurely pace all day long, but if my heart rate went up, I would start shaking... it was bad. Hang in there, make sure you are eating enough and that it is good quality, have your blood checked to rule out something obvious.

Take care---

I recently had bloodwork that showed a low thiamine (B1) level--when I checked my Vitamin labels, none of them contained B1!! After starting supplementation about 3 weeks ago, I can tell my energy is perking back up. Check your vitamin labels and definitely get some bloodwork done. If it's a deficiency of some sort, it will be easily remedied with supplements! Hang in there!!

I had extreme fatigue as well. Was getting at least 9 hours of sleep and dragging a$$ by 3:00. Finally, I called the NUT. She said I needed to get my carbs up. Good ones. She suggested I add cooked green Beans, carrots, peas. Doing this made all the difference in the world. About 3 days later I could tell a difference. It got better after that and now I am all good.

I think a lot of people concentrate on avoiding carbs, but that is not necessarily the ticket. Yes, my weight loss did slow, but it was worth it. You have to find the balance. Give it a try and see how your body reacts.
