Do People Treat You Different After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I didn't in most joints. My feet, ankles, and knees are better though. The Dr. did tell me being overweight is known to cause inflammation and losing weight is supposed to help RA.

Lynda

No

No doubt, losing weight is going to help our joints! :)

How is your stomach handling your meds? I assume you're taking methotrexate? So far so good for me. But I did go through the biggest flare I have ever had during Thanksgiving and the weeks after. My rheumy had to put me on predisone. :(

That's one thing I will REALLY have to work on and not get mad about... if my husband acts different towards me. I have had issues with him over the past few years not acting as affectionate as I'd like esp. in public. Like hand holding and such ...not making out LOL ...so if all the sudden he does a 360 on these things few things I've pointed out numerous times over the past few years I think it will REALLY piss me off! So we will see how it goes... to me I say why do it now when I have been asking or pointing it out for years! So I will I'm sure have to work on that and let him know how I feel about it IF that happens in a few months when I've lost a bit !

Maybe I'm just a ******, but any one who treats me differently just because I have lost weight can just leave me alone. How two-faced and judgmental. Basing how you treat someone on their "earth suit" which only deteriorates and then dies keeps you from knowing and loving some wonderful people. And as far as men treating me differently, well.........never mind.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
