For the last month I have been having pain right between my breasts. It almost feels like I have a cold headache in my chest. It seems sometimes to be positional, sometimes during exertion, sometimes when I eat. It comes up just as quick as it goes. Does anyone know why this is? Does anyone have a similar sensation. I have been banded since last july, had to have my port re-done due to the tube coming lose in December. Please help. I thought I was having a heart attack!:help:

I've never had the symptom you've described in the middle of your chest however, I have had pressure on the left side. It felt like a brick on my chest. Come to find out, I have an irregular heart beat. You should make a call to your PCP and your band surgeon. Good luck!!!

If you still have one, iit could be your gallbladder. That is where the pain usually is.

Not to terrify you but........

Chest pain in the middle of your chest...hmmm better be safe than sorry. Last year I went to a Cardiac Specialist/Heart Surgeon.....checked out fine luckily...it was stress. However, heart disease is the leading cause of death among women......and the pain we get compared to the men...is right in the middle of our boobs!!! Doc says heart attacks can feel like heartburn. That is why so many women die, they pass it off as indigestion! (hmmmmm...gallbladder??? no, its not located in the middle of your chest...it is located under the right side of your liver...next to the stomach) Its prob just stress but check it anyway....mine was so bad, I'd start to faint while out in public.....now when it happens, i stop and think...what is it that bothers me...and tell myself its stress. Hasn't happened in a really long time!! Best Wishes to you!!!

Oh...quick test, take a tums or rolaid...forgot to check to see if you are banded--if so take a liquid...if it goes away relatively fast, its stress. But please have it checked out anyway!!!!

I had pain at my sternum, front and back, that felt a little like what you're describing. Turns out I had/have esophagitis. Sounds like you should talk to your doctor and possibly start taking an acid pump inhibitor like Nexium or Prilosec.

Let us know what you find out.

Chirodana,

You should definately get the pain checked out. Chances are it's nothing life-threatening, but, you'll feel much better once you see/talk to a doctor.

Just to set the record straight, it actually could be your gallbladder. Gallbladder pain often feels like it goes straight through the middle of your chest to your back. I mentioned it because weight loss can often be followed by gallbladder problems.

Ugh......I misunderstood what you meant when you said it could be gallbladder pain..:)

From someone who has been there and had 5-way-bypass surgery for my heart, I implore you, please don't take chest pain lightly. Make an appt. ASAP with your PCP and at least have an EKG which can rule out a significant amount of problems. Don't leave anything to chance please.

I had this pain too. It also went to my back. I awoke w/great pain and in a sweat. I looked at myself in the mirror and I was so pale. I was scarred.

I took pepcid and tumms, stayed up for a bit and it went away.

I did call my doctor the next day and he felt that I had started too soon on mushy food after surgery and or I ate to much. (I started eating 5 days out.)

I stopped for a few days as recomended (went back onto liquids) and started up again. All is fine now.

I did have pain again at night like the first time but it wasn't as severe. Took some tumms and all was fine.

As of today, I'm eating and doing well. (14 days out from surgery)

If you haven't done it yet, please call you doctor and see what he/she has to say.

Please keep us posted and good luck.

I had my lap band surgery in Feb 2006 and lately i've been having sharp pains just under my left breast. It comes on very quickly and the pain is intense and it subsides about 10 to 15 minutes later. The pain can come when I lift something or just sitting watching TV. I had a heart stress test done last year before my surgery and they said everything was ok. Any one have any ideas?

Sounds like gas to me. Do you take chewable GasX or similar? I'm not the most experienced bandster (5-26-06) so perhaps a more seasoned bandster can offer some advice. Good luck, I'm sure this is not fun for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
