Is It Normal To Feel Like This

Recommended Posts

I see everyone's successes and it feels like an infommercial. I'm expecting to see the fine print that says results may vary! I'm just scared that it will be like all other diets that I've tried an failed at. I search for the negative posts but I really haven't see any.

I'm just looking for some reassurance that I'm doing the right thing. My gut tells me that I am. Is this normal to have doubts?

It's perfectly normal to be nervous. As you have probably read, some people loose a lot real fast and others loose a little. You will drive yourself nuts if you try to compare your weight lose to others. I know because I have done it. lol As long as you are losing, then that is all that matters. We all lose, (just at different rates) and we all have stalls where the scale doesn't move at all.

When is your surgery scheduled for?

New Life, I think it would be abnormal if you didn't have doubts. Spend lots of time doing your research and reading on this site. I was skeptical as well, but I've read tons and tons of posts from people who have lost 100 pounds or more. Look in VSG success Stories and read the posts from people who have reached goal. There are tons of those posts, too.

Just for fairness' sake, read the Post-op thread and read about people who have complications (not a lot, yay), and about the discomfort many experience immediately post-op. That will give you an excellent idea of what to expect when it's your turn.

As for me, I've been sleeved just over 3 months and I'm thrilled, both with my results (62 pounds so far) and with my post-op experience. I didn't have lots of post-op complications. I had very little pain and my energy level is through the roof!

Good luck with your journey!! :)

Yep, I was worried too. But I did my homework and came away satisfied I was making the right choice. 1 year and ~170 pounds gone and I am certainly convinced.

Some people DO fail, either they have severe food issues and the sleeve simply slows them down for a while and they are right back to the old bad habits. A VSG being a surgical procedure where you are anesthetized, intubated and a portion of a major organ is removed there IS risk and a few poor individuals have complications and in a few, very few cases some even die.

It's not a decision to be made lightly. I would recommend seeing if there is a support group near you where you can actually speak to people going through the same issues as you and others who are recovering and other who are well along in the process.

I wish you well friend, what ever your decision!

It is absolutely normal to have doubts going into this. This is a life-changing surgery. But as long as you have done your research, educated yourself about the positives and negatives, and are mentally and physically ready, then you will be just fine.

It is important to remember that, contrary to popular belief, the sleeve is a weight loss tool. It is not the "easy" way out like so many people claim. You still have to be prepared to eat healthy and exercise. Otherwise, even with the sleeve, you can still gain weight by eating junk.

Thank you everyone for your kind words! I'm still waiting on insurance approval but I am trying for December 28.

I can say the sleeve does work. But not the same for everyone. Some make it to having a normal BMI where others don't. Some lose 50 lbs.or more lbs. and some lose 100 or more lbs. It really just depends. I'm not sure why it works this way but it does. But from what I can tell 99% of people are happy with whatever their results are. And they feel/look better than before. And that's truly what matters.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
