Two days. I went in on Thursday and was to be released Saturday, I stayed until Sunday because I wasn't drinking Water so the doctor took off the IV which made me thirsty.

Every surgeon is different in the requirements but from what I have learned here, you can expect anywhere from one to five nights depending on the surgeon, insurance, how you are doing, etc. My hospital stay was two nights and I was sleeved at a military hospital. Your surgeon should be able to give you a better idea of what he/she requires.

I did hear from a friend of a friend that someone they know had it done on an outpatient basis but I don't know if I believe that or not. I know the LapBand can be done outpatient but I don't think the sleeve can be since it is so much more involved.

I hope this helps.

I had a two night stay and felt I needed it. The first 24 hours you can't have anything by mouth so it was good having the hospital staff be at your beck and call as needed. I also had a Hiatal Hernia repair so had some pain. The second night was so much better and I was ready to go home the next day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
