GasX... OMG they saved my life. You can get them as strips or as a chewable, as I did. The first and second night the gas pains hurt my chest so bad they brought tears to my eyes and made me fearful of swallowing anything. I was taking them 5 or 6 times a day in the beginning, especially after eating and before laying down.

They will get better. I'm 6 days post-op and today was the first day that I noticed that I am not clenching my teeth whenever I swallowed.

I have not been sleeved yet, but nurse told me to pack a heating pad, Gas X, and peprmint tea. She said they all really help with the gas pain.

Good Luck!

I will join you soon.

The gas does get better. I had surgery on the 30th and wow it was horrible. Not to mention they make you take this x-ray to check for leaks and the stuff you drink gives u the poops, I know TMI, but everytime I had to fart I had to run to the bathroom or it was gunna be a mess. I'm doing much better now though, don't give up. !

I'm having a hard time deciding if the pain I'm feeling is gas or just straight up pain. I'm leaning more towards pain because it's located around my biggest incision. I was sleeved 12/5. Good luck to you! I have found that the GasX strips helped with getting me to burp. For the other end, believe it or not the extremely long bumpy ride home got it moving around and easier to pass.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
