What Is Sugar Doing To Me?

Recommended Posts

Ok...so I think I've been doing wrong because I have a sour stomach when drinking and eating. Is it because I'm drinking regular gatorade? I haven't been text book on avoiding sugar...ie...yogurt, and Jello. Is this my problem? I had a low bmi so I thought my doctor ordered no sugar because of that just being the standard and not wanting to dwarf my weight loss. But most certainly I don't want to do anything to harm myself. I'm in my 2nd week. What is sugar doing to me?!

I'm not sure exactly what it might be, but I'd say it's most likely the yogurt. Lots of us sleevers will get lactose intolerance post op. I did! Though not so much with yogurt, but milk made me sick really bad. Also, it could be the sugar too. If I have more than 15g per sitting, I get sick as well.

Sorry you're not feeling well. I suggest trial and error, take a list of everything you're eating. Space out the sugar and the dairies and write down how each makes you feel. You'll find your culprit eventually.

Thanks lilmissdiva,

Girl...my mom had bypass years ago and I told her about what was going and she told me to stay away from the sugar and that's why my stomach is annoyed. I've only had about an ounce of yogurt since the surgery so I'm not quite sure it's that. But you have a great idea to space it out and flush out the culprit.

Thanks for responding!

I too have had trouble with sugar or products with sugar in them since the surgery. If I eat anything with a higher amount of sugar I feel quite ill.

I just t ry avoid the foods. Thankfully they are ones I should be avoiding too.

I havent had too much with sugar except the RTD Protein Drinks. Havent been a problem but I am wondering too if I maybe am developing this lactose intolerance post op- Yogurt doesnt bother me, string chese and cottage cheese don't bother me but if I make a Protein Drink with my 1% Milk ewe.. a bit gurgly afterwards... I am already on PPI twice day and it isnt "acid"... weird i tell ya... 1 of the things we cannot plan for - for sure...

In the first 8 weeks any yogurt or milk product made me feel sick. Not uncommon. It's better now. Trial and error!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
