Dr. Kelly And Trish- New Info?

Recommended Posts

Dr Kelly is great and I am sure the other cordinators are good also but the reason for using Trish is she works at Florence Hospital and lives in Mexico so she is their with you while you are in recovery, she will get you whatever you need to feel comfortable...The other cordinators live in the states. How are they going to help you??

The deposit is 1500$ which is deposited to Trish, and the remaining balance is a cashiers check made to Dr Kelley.

I had a good surgery, i didnt care for florence hospital it was old and the bathroom showers where kind of gross, but then again i am a germ freak

I had heard that he was going to also be working out of another hospital, not sure if he has moved yet.

My husband and I both had VGS on December 8th with Dr. Kelly. We went through "A LighterMe" and worked with Linda who is herself a WLS patient. Our experience with Linda was great from start to finish. She patiently answered all my questions as quickly as I asked them, several times calling me to speak person to person versus email. Any info she had given me was totally spot on, and there were no surprises.

Regarding the actual experience...again no surprises except for finding out how sincere and caring all of the staff were, from Hector and Adrienne our wonderful driver-team, to every single staff person we came in contact with...what a stellar group. Only one or two of the overnight nurses were not fluent in English and we did fine with non-verbal communication. From our arrival at Pueblo Amigo Hotel, to next morning's trip to hospital (MiDoctorHospital), pre-op tests, surgery, 2 nights in hospital, then back to hotel for 2 nights...we were continually surrounded by competant, caring and kind people. The hotel and the hospital were both modern and immaculate. We also were introduced to Sara as Dr. Kelly's coordinator. She made sure we had everything we needed for our 2 postop hotel days, including Water, juice, gatorade and lots of followup information...she even made a special trip, without us asking, to bring us 'coupons' so we could get chicken broth from the hotel restaurant despite any language barrier with the waiters. Over the course of 2 days, we went down to the lobby restaurant and had the world's best chicken broth...no chips, no tortillas on the side, nothing in the broth...yum!

Dr. Kelly himself? What a gentleman...kind, concerned, devoted to bariatrics and to his patients. He came to our hotel room on a Sunday morning, spending an hour there answering our questions and discussing life in general.

Sorry this is so long...but despite our (and our friends/relatives) fears of "surgery in Tijuana, it could not have been a more positive and wonderful experience. My husband's BCBS of FL work contract has a 'weight loss surgery' exclusion, so we had to pay for both of us out of pocket. Money well spent...

@Nancy... Thank you so much for posting your experience! I am working with Linda also and she has been wonderful over the last few months with all my questions and concerns! (so has Dr. Kelly!)

I am scheduled for 2/22/12 and have been waiting to hear from someone that has been to the new hospital/hotel for Dr. Kelly.

Congrats to you and your husband! I can't wait to join you on the losers bench!

As I understand it, Dr Kelly has reconsidered changing hospitals because the new one doesn't have an ICU.

When we spoke with Dr. Kelly on Dec 11 at our hotel, prior to our leaving TJ, he did mention that he wasn't yet sure on if he would be staying with that hospital or not.... From my patient point-of-view, the Mi Doctor Hospital was great, but I don't have any experience with the previous hospital he used. I suppose if I had needed the ICU, I would not have thought it was so nice....thankfully no need.

@Afro Cyster - did you fly into San Diego? I know Hector was picking up another patient as he dropped hubby and me off early on Dec 12 at airport..what a great bunch of people...hope you are doing great!

If you do not mind me asking, how do you know this? I plan on being sleeved by Dr. Kelly in the near future.

thank you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
