Constipation- Nothings Moving :( Solutions?

Recommended Posts

I "go" maybe once a week- I've tried olive oil, hot Water, hot baths, saline laxatives...and things are still, well...stuck!

I know my body is producing waste, I'm in a great deal of pain.. and without going in to detail, it's evident I need to go, but things aren't moving or soft enough to move along.

This alarms me, as I am getting food (I'm 3 weeks out, consuming plenty of blended veggies and Protein shakes) and I know I really, really need to go.

Has anyone come up with a solution to this that works? I can't be the only one whose experienced hardened stools during this phase! Yuck! :(

Oh my goodness, I feel for you and know where you are coming from. For the first several months after my surgery, I had the worst Constipation of my life. I wouldn't go for a week or longer, and when I finally did, I would literally cry because it hurt so bad. Nothing I tried worked. Finally, I asked other members and they all suggested good ol' Milk of Magnesia. You know what, it worked! I was so excited, I was calling everyone just to say, "hey, I went"!!! I don't know if you have tried it, but if not, give it a shot. Good luck.

I stopped coffee and had the same problem. I decided one cup in the am was not going to kill me and it worked! Now I drink one cup in the morning and go fine. I also noticed cafe mocha (guess the chocolate makes me go too?) REALLY works...lolol.....

M O M...was sent home with me from the hospital and it did work but OHHHHH it was so HARSH. I only went when I took it so I tried Miralax after I read lots of others used it with success. It was much gentlier and I didnt have such horrible movements :(.

I had to use it for several days to get things going and then occasionally for months. I think it was around month 5 things were regular (but I have always had occasional constipation).

Good Luck

Miralax! This is not only a newbie problem. I am 2 1/2 years post op and I can't seem to eat enough veggies to keep me regular. The doctor told me it's safe to use every day and I am sorry when I forget, because I have an immediate problem.

First of all, getting enough water/fluids in your system is needed. 60-80 ounces is what I shoot for. Then, I take 2 sleeves of benefiber in my Protein smoothie, along with a daily dose of miralax. If I stop the Miralax for a few days, I "stop".

Regular exercise is also helpful - the more you move around, the more your intestines move.

Every sleeve patient has to figure out the magic formula that works for them. It is as issue we all have to deal with. Good Luck - feel better soon.

A cup of Decaf coffee every day keeps me regular. Even before surgery, coffee kept things moving regularly for me. That hasn't changed.

I hope things start moving soon!

I'm literally doing everything that should help, and have been- just bought the Miralax last night, and some docusate sodium!

I run daily for 30 minutes, I've been eating blended veggies and a Protein shake with Fiber, I drink coffee each morning, I get exactly the amount of Water I should (sometimes maybe a little shy- this is the one problem I see), and I have been trying olive oil orally, hot baths, and saline laxatives.

Tomorrow is my "transition into real food day"- I am going to have to postpone that until things start moving, unfortunately :(

I wrote my surgeon an e-mail, perhaps he will have some insight. The only thing I have not tried is Milk of Magnesia. Or a hospital visit, LOL! I hope it doesn't come to that- I have no insurance.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
