Question For The Girls- Pms Stress....

Recommended Posts

So i am pre sleeve (dec 28) and have been on a low carb, low cal, high Protein diet for a few weeks to try to get all the sugars and stuff cleaned out and get my candy cravings under control (candy bars, Wonka, Starburst, skittles you name it i love it, im like a 5 year old with pixie stix) anyway i have been doing AWESOME besides a little slip on turkey day. Intill............PMS struck yesterday. You name it i tried to scarf it down. I had M&Ms and pretzels in my mouth AT THE SAME TIME! so my question is, how do you deal with pms after the sleeve? what does it feel like? This is the first time i have been worried about how i will be AFTER. im fully dedicated and ready but this has me worried because i scarfed that stuff down like i was on autopilot, just shoveling chocolate and salty in my mouth like any other month. I will be dealing with it next month fresh outta surgery still healing and all that jazz, and worried about what kind of pms symptoms i will be feeling. Can anyone give me some feedback?

Hmmm.... I know for myself that my cravings have generally been stronger (but that's just me, everyone is different). The awesome thing about the sleeve? You CAN'T eat that much! So for you, it would maybe be just a couple mms or a couple pretzels. I'm not sure what diet you plan on following, but I found that the harder I stayed away from it, the more I wanted it. I am not terribly strict with myself, just as long as I don't go overboard on anything and I always have my Protein first (which means I don't really eat anything bad since I don't have much time).

But, I also try to take my mind off of it. I distract myself. I try going out for a walk or listen to my music or just stay busy in general. It doesn't last long and it's not that bad. Plus, if you do overeat... well you learn not to really quick!

I hope some other people with more experience chime in as well. You may want to browse the "powder room- ladies gone wild" for some more insight.

I still have some cravings. Sugar makes me nauseated and I have had two episodes where I decided that I could never do that again (notice that it took me twice and not just once). I have given in and had a couple pretzels or a couple crackers, but too many make me nauseated and once I have had a couple the craving is pretty much over. There may be some better options for salty Snacks (and probably are), but part of why I wanted the sleeve was that I would have the opportunity to eat everything as long as I kept it to a reasonable amount.

I started exactly two weeks after my sleeve. I could tell I was gonna start too because I wanted to snack. I did but I didn't. You will understand after you have it done. I did buy Hershey's sugar free small Bars. I didn't eat more than two at a time and did fine. I use to could eat the whole bag non sugar free and not think twice. You will be ok. You find your weight stalls that week. I am just over 2 weeks out and have lost 20 pounds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
