Alright.... So I'm here at my hospital for this sleep study and I hope the bed is comfortable!!! Wonder what they gotta put on me...... and has anyone had to do the Gastroenterology??? Do they really have to stick something down your throat in order to see the lining in your stomach???? Do they put you to sleep?? I'm gonna gag ughhhh

Sorry guys just sitting here waiting and writing whatever comes to my mind lol

I never had to have anything stuck down my throat but they did make me drink disgusting barium contrast while they took xrays to see my stomach....it was awful!

Seems you have more than one procedure - sleep study is to see if you have sleep apnea, the gastro is usually to check for ulcers or blockages.

Having both - my sleep study was at home and just had to hook up machine, couple of belts and two electrodes. In study center you will get similar plus they should be filming you for restlessness, waking up, snoring.

Gastro was barium solution and imaging. I would think putting something down the throat may cause swelling.

Don't worry to much, you should be fine.

My doctor is going to have me do an endoscopy to see the inside of my stomach. As far as I understand its a small tube that is inserted in your mouth and goes all the way into your stomach, they sedate you. Hopefully I will be really sedated because I do have a strong gag reflex. Is that the procedure you are having?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
