Yeh! The Lapband Is Coming Out....

Recommended Posts

finally know where I am up to with having my band out and getting the VSG. I will be booked into hospital over the next week or so for January removal and then 3 months healing and the surgeon says the VSG is for me. He commented that he is now taking out more bands than what he puts in.

Good for you!

When I first thought about WLS, I thought, I'll get the Lap Band! it just seems so easy, etc etc!!

Well, I went to my first Kaiser seminar about the 3 different WLS they offered. And they DID NOT recommend the Lap Bad at all. They said they take out as many as they put in! And mentioned all the problems that go with it.

That really popped my balloon! LOL

So then I wanted the RouNY. All the way into the end of my Option's program. Then I met with my surgeon and he recommended the sleeve for me. Said because of the meds and my health problems I have, that I would be high risk for the rouNY.

I am glad he guided me to the sleeve!

I think you'll be happy with it as well. And healthier too!!

when i was deciding which WLS to have, i immediately thought of the lap band, didn't really know of any other surgery except the gastric bypass, which i didn't want. My general physician said the lap band would be great for me. then i did some research, and found that the lap band had certain problems. Felt bad telling my great dr. i was going to go another route, the sleeve. due to all the problems that i've heard about the lapband, people going from lapband to sleeve, do you think the lapband will become extinct slowly? I'm very excited to become sleeved :purplebananna:

I am so glad to hear a surgeon say that he removes more Lap Bands than he puts in. I certainly wish that everyone considering the band would read this thread and save themselves the troubles that they are going to face down the road with the band. Myself being one of those people. So so so glad that thing is out of my body. Good riddence!!!

I love my sleeve!!!!

I parted with my band in March... and I don't miss it!!!!!

I think that former bandsters are very good sleeve patients. We are so used to the weird eating rules that the sleeve rules seem quite easy.

So happy for you and hope everything goes well.

The band SUCKS.

My husband commented on that, how odd the eating rules were with the band. For me, I was fine with giivng up rice and stuff like that, i just hated that it was so inconsistent. and that I was still hungry.

My band and I will part ways on January 23, 2012! I have fought and struggled with the band for almost 6 years. Cannot get rid of it soon enough!!!! My surgeon also said that he is removing far more bands than he is putting in! Hope all goes well with you!

so - do you think the lap band will become extinct?

It sure sounds like everyone for good reasons are very unhappy with it.

Thankyou ladies, so great to see I am not alone with this. I feel like at least something is happening in the right direction.

I believe bands will become non existent. I think this will be an epidemic of removals- oh well - for me - you believe what you are told at the time.

I could never, ever under any circumstances ever recommend the band to anyone. Everyone I know, myself included, developed problems after the first year.

Glendaaus, just curious, why doesn't your surgeon remove the band and do the revision to sleeve at the same time? That is what I did, and couldn't be happier.

Susan, he says that my stomach needs to be healed before he can do the vsg - about 3 months - I wish I could find someone in Canada or Mexico that could do it all at once - I would much prefer that.

Hmmmm, okay. Dr. Aceves did mine all at once, I was glad. I didn't want to have to go through the surgery and healing process twice. But, your doctor definitely knows what is best for you. What is important is that you are getting it done!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
