Hernia After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 2 weeks ago today, and I started having a severe pain in my lower left abdomen area, (much lower then my incisions)

it hurts when I bend over and feels like something is pulling, it doesnt seem to be getting better, should I call my surgeon? could this be a hernia? I had a hiatal hernia before surgery but it never hurt so this pain is new to me... any thoughts ? if this is normal that would be great, but everyone else talks about exercising and stuff well I am in too much pain to do anything other then walk.. thanks in advance guys.

I had something similar that ended up going away, however I DID contact my surgeon and he checked it out. At the very least call them and see what they say. Hopefully it is nothing, but if it's not it is better to bring attention to it early than late! Good luck

Ladonna, I am LOL here, not At you, but With you. I had a pain between my drain incision and my belly button about 10 weeks out. I asked the doc about it when I went in because I was afraid it was a hernia, too! :) He felt and prodded and pushed, then finally told me that it's a fibroid! I have had a fibroid dx for about 10 years, but they had never hurt before. Now I can feel it all the time. Why? Because there's no freaking padding over the darn thing now!!!

Ask your doc to check it out, but hopefully it will be something mild like mine! :)

I had pain in the same area. It was the largest incision site and where the excess was taken out of. I did have an ultrasound to make sure there was no hernia, it just ended up being from all they did during hte surgery, the entire area hurt so badly for the first few months.

i called the surgeon the nurse said it was the internal stitch they use, but my incisions are all above my belly button and my pain is about 5 inches under my belly button, so we will see Hopefully it will go away on its own.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
