4 Weeks Gastric Sleeve Postop Today. It Is Getting Easier Just Like They Said!

Recommended Posts

I am 4 wks postop today. I'm down 28 pounds and very happy about it. It was hard at first with pain, thirst, intense restriction and fatigue. The 3rd wk was the turning point. I could eat more comfortably, the fatigue started to lessen and I felt the weight loss in my clothes. Others said they noticed the weight loss but for some reason I don't believe them. Maybe i'm weird. I'm about one third the way to my goal which is to lose 90 pounds. so anyone who is struggling, hang in there it DOES get better like they say. Big hugs.

I will be 4 weeks on Friday. We have lost the same amount. Sounds like you had a rough few weeks. Sorry to hear that. I had the exhaustion for a couple of weeks then felt great. This is such a great tool and it's so exciting to feel the clothes getting baggier. Continued success, it just gets better from here on out.

I just got back from my follow up appt with my nurse practitioner. She agreed to follow me after I had the VSG in Mexico. She ordered labs today and I'm interested to see if I have any deficiencies. I'm lucky to have her because she is in complete support of the VSG and doesn't judge people on anything! It didn't even phase her that I chose to go to Mexico to have it done. I had many people get eyes as big as saucers when I told them I sent to Mexico for my surgery. Those kind of people drive me nuts. They have proven to be the type that watch too much TV and believe all the negative reports they hear on TV. I conducted my own independent research before I went. By the way, I also think a few of those "negative" people are just jealous. That's just my opinion.

bikerchik: I love your ticker with the MC on it! Can I ask what kind of MC do you ride?

Just imagine how awesome it will be at 8 weeks out, 9 weeks out!! (that's about where I am!) It seriously does get easier every day. You get all the benefits of the weight loss and the restriction. At this point I pretty much have my limitations down, though I do experiment every so often to see what I can tolerate. At this point just about everything except hamburger is fine for me. I can't wait to see where the following months bring me!

Congrats on getting through the hard part! You said you wanted to lose 90 pounds, and you've already lost 1/3 of your excess weight!! That is amazing!

Thanks for your comments! Any advice on how to update my ticker? Also, I just wanted to comment that my doctor said I may lose 100+ pounds but I don't really want to. I believe 90 is the absolute most I would want to lose because I want to be able to maintain the weight loss long term. However, I do know that some people have posted that they don't have a problem maintaining their weight loss after VSG. I just really hope to be spending most of my "off work" time doing things with my family and not furiously working out to maintain my weight. The biggest reason I had this surgery was so I could relieve the stress on my back, reduce the bulging discs and in turn allow me less pain and MORE active fun with my family. I have missed out on WAY too many activities due to my back pain, risk of further back injury and this was mostly due to my obesity. I will be under 200 in just 9 more pounds. It has been over 4 years since I've been under 200 and even then I was 197 for just about 4 months. I had been doing Atkins. Soon after I catapulted to 235 in a matter of two months. I am so glad those days are over!! Thanks again for all of your support!

I've never lied about that! Time heals all wounds and it's true for the sleeve surgery. The difference in the end the bonus is lesser than, not greater. Whooottt!!! Glad to hear things are looking UP!

Lisa, I had a gorgeous candy orange Honda VTX 1800 but I sold it to help pay for my surgery. It was worth it, but I really miss it. I think I'm gonna buy one just like it next year or possibly a new Harley Street Glide.

You're welcome :) As for the ticker... I just click on me and it brings me to the correct place to update. Also, when you first make the ticker it gives you a link you can save (the same place clicking on your current ticker will take you). I bookmarked that link and put it as a tab so it is right there for me when I open up google chrome.

As for the amount of weight loss, I haven't officially picked a goal. For my ticker I picked a number that was right in the middle of the "normal" BMI range, but I know that between any extra skin I may have and just where my body evens out I may not hit that. I am not bothered by numbers. It may be because I was never little in my adult life (i'm only 20) to begin with, so if I look back to the last time I was "normal" I was just a kid, so I am really facing the unknown. But I'm happy about that. It also means I can set a new standard for myself.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
