2 Weeks Out From Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks out from surgery, Starting to feel much better but I am allergic to the Protein shaks, so I am not getting those in, I eat 4 oz of yogurt and 2 cheesesticks and 3 oz of fat free refried Beans with cheese a day. (the whole day) not all at once, I am getting in about 40 oz of Water, I lost 30 lbs on my preop diet and after surgery I gained 11 lbs, so now I am down to having lost a total of 8 lbs since surgery in 2 weeks, Seems to me I should be loosing faster, but I am not getting in enough protein or calories I know, but I just cant eat much more then 3 oz at a time. any advice from you experienced sleevers? am I in a stall? or am I just not eating enough and what do I do since I am allergic to the Protein Shakes, any advice is appreciated.. thanks

Do you know what ingredient in the Protein shakes that you are allergic to? There are a lot of Protein powders out there that you could try if it is an ingredient only found in the pre-made ones.

Can you eat eggs? pureed Soups? Maybe some well cooked red potatoes (complex carbs) or overcooked mushy carrots with a little chicken broth added for flavor?

You are only two weeks out so don't worry with the scale right now or you'll drive yoursel batty. Just focus on getting in the Water (fluids) and the protein. If you know what it is that causes the allergic reaction, that would be helpful. What happens when you drink one, if I may ask?

I dont know what in them I allergic to, I have tried the whey Protein Shakes and I get hives, the surgeon switched me to carnation Protein shakes and I still get hives, I am clueless as to what it is but My body doesnt like them.. I am allergic to potatoes, and pork, so I have to be careful on that, I will stop stressing over the scale, yes I can have eggs and pureed Soups, I have been eating 3 oz of brocoli and cheese Soup, but I will be honest, I havnt felt hungry or full since my surgery so I dont know if I should be eating more or not, I am too afraid to get a leak to eat more then 3 oz, ugghhh this is harder then I thought it would be, cause with not enough protein Im sluggish..

Hi-

I didn't do the Protein drinks because I couldn't stand the taste. Do your best to get the fluids in and get Protein where you can. Drink milk, drink liquid yogurt, keep eating the cheese and yogurt. I also added in thin sliced deli meat with cream cheese rolled up in it. When you can graduate to meat, the protein numbers really go up.

Don't worry about the scale right now. Calories in vs calories out = you will lose weight. Try to stay away from the scale for at least a week at a time. Especially in the first month. There is a stall you will experience in the first 3-5 weeks that really bums a lot of people out. Better to focus on liquids and protein and leave the scale alone if you can.

Just do your best!!! I never got in the liquid or protein that was recommended. My side affect was that I was really tired for the first couple of months. I don't think it was the right thing to do, but it was the best I could do. If you try your best, it will be OK.

If you are tracking calories and not hitting your targets, try eating smaller portions more often. I ate 6 or more times a day for several months. Even now I eat 5 times and sometimes more. Just make sure they are nutritious :-)

Good luck!

Cottage cheese too is a good source. You can make it taste sweet or savory depending on your tastes (Google some recipes). I agree with the deli meats and cream cheese - those are yummy!

Keep us updated. I wish you the best because I know that the first few weeks are tough. I'm just under 6 weeks out and it has gotten easier for me so there is a light at the end of the tunnel...

Ladonna, May I suggest that you may not be allergic to the Protein shakes, but you may be lactose intolerant? You are having a good bit of dairy and many sleevers find that they have problems with dairy right after surgery. For some, it goes away after 3 months or so. Have you or your doctor considered that possibility?

I saw that you get hives from something you're eating, but Protein Shakes often have whey isolate in them, which is made from milk.

Shae has a good suggestion in using broth with veggies to get food into you. I also loved refried Beans when I was first on mushies. I also pureed up some canned beef stew and some chili when I was on mushies. The textures were interesting, but it did change my diet up, which I needed.

Good luck!! The first few weeks are the toughest, but things get easier when you can eat solid food again.

I went to GNC recently cause I was having trouble with the Protein Shakes post surgery (lactose intolerance) and while it's mild, and I'm not really having issues with the whey (made with milk) the people at GNC suggested a soy Protein Powder line that they had.. Maybe give it a shot?

Im almost 2 weeks post op too and have just lost 9 pounds so i am with you on feeling like you're not losing fast enough. I had to put my scale away it was making me depressed. I get about 650 cals a day and I do my best to get all 60 g of Protein. i also try and exercise everyday for 30 mins at the workout room in my apartment complex and I dance to the Wii game just dance for like 6 songs every other day. At this rate I know the weight has to come off at some point. My 4 year old eats more than me!

Hopefully we will get out of the funk and get on the weightless train soon! Happy losing :)

FYI ..I have been lactose intolerant for years and my NUT suggested whey isolate. I get them at GNC but they have them everywhere. I have had no issues.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
