Im So Ready For This Gastric Sleeve Journey To Begin!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! Im new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself and say how great it is to read everyones success stories. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago and since then I have gained an unbelieveable amount of weight! I decided on the gastric sleeve to help control the pcos and to help me get to a healthy point in my life. I have found a few posts on this site talking about surgery + pcos but not many. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? I'd just like to hear the good, bad and the ugly of coping with pcos after surgery....because I've failed at all other attempts to lose weight and keep it off..I guess Im just mainly hoping this will be the tool I need to help me lose weight and KEEP it off. Of course I know it will take effort on my behalf also... :gnorsi:

On a different note: I called the insurance company today and was assigned a case worker that I have a phone meeting with in 2 weeks. I know it's not much but just taking that step felt like the beginning of a new life! :coolgleamA:

It is! That is exactly how I felt when I set up the appointment to speak to the insurance coordinator at my surgeons office.

You might want to search for Surgeons of Excellence in your area so you can ask the insurance case worker if they are covered and you can set up an appointment right away. Also try searching for Pcos on the top right of the home page. I have seen lots of posts about it here.

Ditto! I have PCOS and will be sleeved on Dec 12th. I am hoping that it improves/eliminates the condition as well.

Thanks everyone & I wish you all the best of luck as well!

longer-life: I have United Health and Im almost positive that the only way they will approve the surgery is if I choose from the Centers of Excellence...is that the same as Surgeons of Excellence or is that a different list?

Thanks again! :)

They might have their own Centers of Excellence. I would pick someone that's in both lists. This is what I was referring to:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
