STOP dieting... START living. Permanent weight loss is exactly that, permanent. There is no end! There will never be an easy way out, unless you think eating healthy and working out is simple. I'm changing my attitude today! I'm going to start enjoying nourishing my body with good foods and sweating with a smile on my face. =)

It is important to take a look in the mirror every morning and say something positive from yourself to yourself. You are your own worst critic, but you can become your own best ally. Try this on for starters: "I am stronger than my enemy, and I am dedicated to creating a healthy body and mind!"

Hello there!

I am about 2 years out now, and i have gained about 22 pounds from my lowest weight. I just don't know....I can't seem to get my groove back! I was running, and loving it, but I stopped last winter and I just can't seem to get back into it. I need some help, I feel like I am all alone, my family really tries to be supportive, but they bring cake and crap to my house, all the time!

I just want to get back on track, I feel like if I can get some support, and find the path again, I will be ok again!

I don't want to be 300 pounds again, I will get my goal of 144, I just need some support!

Hi Britt, I think the first thing you can do is to stop giving your power away. You have to be responsible for yourself. No one is going to take care of you, nor is anyone going to sabotage you - BUT YOU.

So if cake is keeping you from your personal best then you DON'T eat that. (As opposed to CAN'T or SHOULDN'T). Perfect example, I just recently gave up Doritos. I've found out they lace it with some chemicals that our bodies become addicted to. Yes, exactly the same way a drug addict chases heroine. Now, I DON'T eat that, because if I do I'm giving my power away.

It's okay to tell anyone that you DON'T eat cake, so no thank you. ;)

Also, in the mean time try upping your Water intake and doing some extra workouts. This journey isn't easy for some of us, and we need to take it more seriously. We need to find the right combination to make it work and KEEP it working.

Good luck!

I am totally down in the dumps :( I have gone from 186 to 192 back and fourth for over a month now. I am going to say I have not been watching my carbs at all however I know I am under 1000 due to the quantity. My one year will be here in about a month and I am nowhere near goal and that really makes me feel bad. I am under tons of stress so I know that plays a big part. Today I will be doing an all liquid day and see if I can get back on track and shock my system.

Don't get discouraged. You can get back on track. I have trouble keeping my carbs in check but I found this great site called My Fitness Pal. There's also an app if you have a mobile device. I like it because it keeps track of my calories, weight, and exercise. It also breaks down my nutrients. You can scan the UPC code on packages and it automatically puts all the nutrients in for you or you can manually put the info in. It has a diet and exercise journal too. And the best part is that it is free. Oh yeah it also keeps track of how many glasses of Water you drink. Hope it helps. And don't forget we are all here to support you too. Good luck!

I think the most important lesson we will learn post-op Sleeve is that this is NOT a magic cure. We will always have to work on keeping our bodies healthy and fit. :) So, if you need support to get back to where you need to be, I will always be here - as well as there being many others who are willing to lift you back up.

We're going to kick some butt in the next few days! ;)

"A journey of a thousand miles always begins with the first step". I'm sure so many have heard this before... but what is the first step? I'll tell you. It is realizing you have somewhere to travel to. It is admitting and knowing you have something to fix or complete. Taking personal and full responsibility for it, and taking action.

Thank you Diva :) I know we will! I belong to a few support groups on Facebook but FB and shopping had become my cross addiction so I have been facebook free 3 weeks and working on my shopping. I am trying to stick to only what we need and an occasional treat. This is also why I came back to VST (I used to have an account not sure what happened) to get the support (and give) to reach my goal :)

Thanks for all the encouraging words!! It helps seeing that I'm not the only one struggling with issues still. I knew going in that this wasn't the end all be all of my sturggles with my weight, but this is the first REAL struggle I have actually had! I decided to get back to basics, I am going to do a week or so of Liquid dieting to try and shock my system, and then really watch what I eat there after! I do have a journey to complete, and I am determined to get there! Having somewhere to go for ideas, or kind words is an amazing thing!!!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
