Jbr043 0 Posted November 28, 2011 I just had my sleeve on Wednesday (4 days ago). No complications, no nausea, no vomitting, had no trouble with liquids what so ever. My question is, do I have to wait the full 2 weeks before eating soft foods or can I start just a week out? I don't want to jeopardize anything but I'm just not satisfied on the bariatric liquids! FishingNurse 1,211 Posted November 28, 2011 Please wait for the 2 weeks!! For your safety. It is so your sleeve can heal. If you start on softs foods early out with the fresh suture line and swelling you risk a leak and that is horrible news. You will be NPO (nothing by mouth- not even water) and have an IV with your nutrtion for weeks. I met a girl who got a leak a week out and she was on TPN (IV's only) for 5 weeks. She cried everytime at our support group. Its not worth the risk! You will be eating normal soon enough.
thinoneday 445 Posted November 28, 2011 Well if you don't want to jeopardize anything, then do as the doctor says. If your to be on 2 weeks of liquids then be on 2 weeks of liquids. Honey the food will always be there. . allow your stomach to heal and for you to get better. . . don't jeopardize a possible complications just because you want to eat. . .good luck
cuteascanbelizzie 10 Posted November 28, 2011 JBr, I am a week out tomorrow and understand your cravings. Are you eating filling things like diluted cream Soups or Protein Drinks mixed with milk? Imagine is a brand of smooth creamed soups that has low fat, sodium, sugar or carbs and I dilute it with chicken broth and a little no salt seasoning. I can eat about 2-4 oz and I'm full. Once that feeling of fullness hits craving disappear. sugar free popsicles are my friend too.
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted November 28, 2011 The reason you are on liquids is to protect the staple line. they just removed 85% of your stomach so there is a long staple line that needs you need to guard. Risking a leak is just not worth it.
DebiC 181 Posted November 28, 2011 First off-be thankful your surgeon lets you start on foods at 2 weeks (so does mine). I've read from a lot of people that they have to stay on full liquids for 6 to 8 weeks or more. Tomorrow is my 2 week and I survived the period by splurging on special Soups. My doctor allows almost any Soup as long as it was pureed (check with yours first of course) so I bought Wendy's chili, Olive Garden Soup. At the crocery store I found a really good generic Chunky soup called chicken con queso-tasted almost like nachos. I also did the Progresso light beef pot roast and others that seemed hearty. Hang in their-it'll be over before you know it. Best of luck.
