side sleeping...

Recommended Posts

Now that I am getting closer to a date, I was wondering how long it was for people to resume sleeping on their sides!! I sleep mostly on my right side which will be port side. (sounds like a boat, ha ha). I anticipate sleeping in my recliner for a few nights and our couch is comfy for back sleeping. Inquiring minds like mind wonder.. Thanks so much.;)

I slept on my side the first night in my bed. Just not as far on my side as I would like but I took a dose of pain meds just as I went to bed. This is what my doc told me to do.

No problems.

I am a stomach sleeper. I was in the recliner for about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks, Then I was able to sleep on my side in bed until I was able to rotate to my stomach at about 3 weeks or so post op. That was my experience. Well worth a little inconvenience.

I am about 2 and half weeks out and am just now starting to be able to half sleep on my side. for a while there, it was hard to sleep on my back, but i just put TONS of pillows around me and I didn't move. hope that helps!

I slept on my sides first night out, alternating from side to side during the night. I've always been a side sleeper. I found the most comfortable position for me for relieving gas was also laying on my left side. my left is my port side, and it would hurt a bit when I first settled on to it, but after the initial twinge, it felt great.

I am a stomach sleeper, and slept on my sides the first week. The second week I would start out on my sides, but wake up on my stomach. Last night I went to sleep laying on my stomach. Best night sleep I have gotten since I got the band.

I am a left side sleeper and that is where my port is. It took a few nights before I could sleep that way. So, I did a few nights sort of propped up on my back. Hubby and I had to switch sides of the bed too! lol It was easier for me to get up toward my right side. It all passes quickly, you will be fine.

For me it was about a 2 weeks and then I had to put a pillow under my gut to help support it b/c my belly would pull everything down (nice visual eh~ ).

I am a side sleeper...so much so that while groggy in the hospital, I rolled over abruptly, thus pulling the beejeezus out of my newly sewn in port. ow. Like mentioned above, I had a hard time sleeping on my side since my belly pulled on everything.

Here was my solution. I went out to a department store and bought one of those girdle thingies that is like a tube that goes around your waist. It was like HEAVEN. It pulled everything in tight so I could actually sleep on my side. I only wore it at night (it rolled up weird in the daytime) and I think it helped my port muscles heal faster too as it gave them support. It was the only way I was able to sleep on my side. I wore it about two weeks and then all was fine.

Good luck!!!

I am a right side sleeper and my port is on the left, so it was no problem. About 1 1/2 weeks after surgery I started rolling over onto my left side in the middle of the night and it has been just fine :) Good luck to you!

I primarily sleep on my left side and that's where my port is. The hardest part, for me, about the banding was NOT being able to sleep on my side. After about 2 weeks I could sleep on my right side but it took a good 4-5 weeks before I could get on my left side. The weird thing is, I STILL sometimes feel pain when I turn on my left side.

I had terrible shoulder pain that prevented me from sleeping on my side for about two weeks. My port felt OK, just tender, but that darn shoulder messed me up! Good luck!

If there's one thing I found absolutely unbearable about my lapbanding experience, it was lying in bed all day on my back after the op. Of course I slept of the anaesthetic and then could not sleep at all that night, and I was soooooo uncomfortable from having been on my back all day. I did manage to get onto my side for short periods of time just for some relief - it took the hangy thing above the bed to haul myself over though, and a pillow under my tummy to support it.

By the next night at home I could sleep on my side just fine.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
