Anybody 6 To 8 Months Postop ?

I know we're all different and our weight loss is the same way. Im just looking for some basic weight loss stats.

My surgery was on April 4, 2011 and I weighed in at 278. As of today I'm at 201. Seems slow(?) of course I've chested on Halloween and thanksgiving. Can't seem to stay under 1000 caleries. I'm eating 1200-1400. I know that's too many. But I'm still hungry at 1000 and it always hits me at the end of the day. I hate going to bed hungry. Any suggestions ?

I'm only 3.5 months post op and I eat 1200 a day. I also work out a lot. For general health purposes I also feel like less than that is not healthy. Preop I ate 3500 minimum a day, I'm trying to maintain my muscle mass and skin elacicity. Slower is ok with me. Remember, you need to make a deficiency of 3500 calories to lose 1 pound, that's a lot! It takes time.

You weightloss rate doesn't seem slow to me. I've lost 96 lbs. since surgery on March 15th. I had a three week head start on you and weighed more than you to start.

I also eat more than most on the board and have since the beginning. At three months I ate about 1000 calories a day, I now eat about 1500 but can go up to 1800 on intense running days ( I am training for a 1/2 marathon and run a lot of long distances). Heck, yesterday I did 10 miles and was FAMISHED. By the end of the day I had eaten 2200 calories. However, my run alone burned 1800 so I definitely ended up with a deficit.

Are you working out? That is one of the best ways to get your metabolism going. Also, for hunger, I often find that I am actually thirsty rather than hungry. Try drinking a large glass of Water followed by a hot beverage like tea or low cal hot cocoa. That may take the edge off your hunger in the evening at let you sleep.

I am just short of 9 months since surgery. Here is my weight lost history

5 Month 9 104 Minimum - it might be one or two more.

I started out for the first 3 weeks just trying to get in my fluids and as much Protein as possible - I was probably managing maybe 40 grams of Protein. After that, until about 6 months, I was as 60 grams of protein, and 60 minimum ounces of Water, and about 500 calories. I didn't eat bread, Pasta, rice or potatoes and didn't drink alcohol. I also stayed away from sugar. At 6 months I upped the protein to about 80 grams, and the calorie count to around 800. Same thing with the carbs and sugar. I have pretty much held there, except it doesn't bother me if I exceed the protein count occaisionaly, and the calories flex up to 1000 now. For the past three days, I have exceeded that and have been eating more of my restricted carbs and sugar. Today I am getting back to normal and will be strict again starting tomorrow and stay strict until I give myself a break for Christmas.

I didn't do much exercise to start, just lite walking. Then I bought an elliptical and started Zumba, and was doing both. But, I sprained my ankle badly cleaning a closet, which put most exercise on hold for me. I really haven't started back, but will resume my exercise next week. I plan on hitting it hard to help me get the last 15 pounds off, and to firm up my saggy jiggly self. And, my goal is to make exercise a part of my normal routine, to help me maintain my goal weight.

I'm a couple of weeks past 6 months and I've lost about 70 lbs. post-op. I exercise 5 days per week, with a mix of cardio and strength training. I eat about 900 calories a day. I lost 32 .bs. pre-op and I'm currently at a normal BMI. My goal is a BMI of 21.8 and a weight of 135. I have about 14 lbs. to go.

Your calories are higher than some, but as long as you're losing and you're comfortable with what you're eating, I don't think they are too high. Kaiser Fremont guidelines allow up to 1200 per day. I'm more concerned with the fact you are hungry.

I agree with what others have posted about drinking Water. I often feel hungry in the afternoon when I haven't had enough Water that day. Once I drink a couple of glasses and am back on track, I usually am full till dinner time. I sometimes have a small snack in the evening if I'm hungry. A glass of soy milk with a little sugar free flavored Syrup and a few crackers will usually hit the spot for me.

One thing you might try is an antacid. I have read many posts where people thought they were hungry but it was acid and the antacid corrected the issue.

Also, you mentioned calories, but not what you are eating. If I don't get enough Protein, I am hungry. I get at least 60 grams a day, spread over three meals.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

Truth be told........I no I'm not drinking the proper amount of Water, I'm not eating the proper amount of Protein and I'm not exercising the way that I should. I've really started back some bad habits and it scares me. I'm going to buckle down and get myself back together and do what I'm suppose to be doing. Thanks again :)

Like you mentioned we all lose at different rates. It depends on how your body reacts to surgery, your age, the way you eat, etc. Personally I don't find the rate you have lost to be slow at all, it just might not be as fast as you would like ;)

Make sure if you are hungry at night you stick with Protein, don't go for the chips or anything else, just stick with Protein. A string cheese is normally my go-to item. Or drink some Decaf tea, I drink it nightly before bed now, it fills me up and helps me get the Water in.

For me, I hit goal of 90 lbs lost between my 2 week pre-op and surgery by 6 1/2 months. I do not count calories, carbs, protein, etc, so I can't help ya there. I am also in my 20s which I know contributed to my weight coming off like it did.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
