I Crave Lemonade!

Recommended Posts

I don't know why but I crave lemonade. The really intense kind. Such as the brands "simply Lemonade" and "Calypso". It could be from needing more fluids but not sure. Anyone crave it too? Or post your own odd craving.....

I was really craving lemonade also. I don't do artificial sweeteners so I have only had Water to drink since pre-op so I decided to "treat" myself on Thanksgiving with a 16oz serving of peach lemonade with real sugar. I drank this over a 4 hour period.

I ended up being sick for hours, I think it was prob the sugar load, maybe the acid from the lemonade. Needless to say I will be waiting a few months before trying this again.

Crystal Light lemonade is pretty potent also!! I have weird cravings for milk, I take a couple of drinks and I'm over it. Maybe because I need Protein?

Hey cool! I'm gonna try to find that BariWise. Ive had some Crystal Light but it's too artificial for my taste. Where can I get that lemonade?

Either the sugar or the acid, yep. The sugar itself can cause "dumping", a syndrome common among bariatric surgery patients. It occurs when one consumes highly sugared foods at once, and causes nausea, weakness, dizziness et cetera. Yet another good reason to avoid refined sugars in large quantities. Personally I think a good glass of lemonade tastes just fine with only 1 teaspoon of sugar, preferably brown sugar (less harmful), hand-squeezed lemon juice, cold Water and ice cubes.

The acid could be the reason too. I was ordered to take Omeprazole 20mg for 3 months post-op, to lower my stomach's acidity level and induce quicker, easier recovery. One would imagine that lemon might have an adverse effect, not sure though.

I get it from BariatricChoice.com. I like the Protein Fruit drinks because I find myself getting really tired of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavors. My favorite flavor is the Peach Mango.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
