New Here! Get Sleeved Dec. 16th

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! This is my first post and hopefully I will do it right. I am from Louisiana and will have my sleeve surgery on Dec. 16th by Dr. Merriman of Shreveport. My weight has been like a rollercoaster ride since highschool. I thought about having lap band, but after doing alot of research and reading forums on this sites, the you tube video's (which are very inspiring) and not to mention that my insurance company will only pay for one bariactic surgery in a life time, this is the surgery for me. I know that it will be a life style change but I am honestly ready. My current weight is 231lbs and my goal is 150lbs. I'm sort of nervous about the surgery, though I know in my heart it will be the best Christmas gift of all. My son recently got married and after seeing the wedding photos of myself was very embarrasing but at the same time they are very motivating. My daughter will be getting married also the end of next year and I have made up my mind to get off of the weight rollercoaster and to be a healthier person!

Congratulations!! I am 11 days post op and this is so far the best decision I ever made FOR me. I was also scared and nervous, however, my surgery went well and even had a hernia repair while I was under. I didn't have alot of pain except about an hour or so after the recovery room. Got a shot of morphine and was good to go. My two suggestions are: 1. Get up and start walking as soon as you can. I walked within a few hours of surgery. Made it so much easier the next days because the hard part is getting up, it hurts using those stomach muscles. 2. Do exactly as your dr and nut say. Don't stray from their orders on the liquids, etc.

I dont get hungry so I have to constantly remind myself to drink my liquids, Water, etc. Some people have this and some are starving during this beginning time period. I think it all kinda levels off once your able to eat soft and solid foods. The liquids tend to leave the stomach quickly.

Best of luck to you, I believe you'll never regret this decision!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
