Gastric Sleeve Incision Split Open?

Recommended Posts

I am 12 days post-op.

Things are going good except for 1 incision....it has been oozing a bit, so Ive been changing the dressing on it twice a day. And my family doctor said to put polysporin on it. I see the surgeon on Monday for a 2 week followup.

But I was looking at it today, and it looks like a tiny bit in the middle of the incision is OPEN....

its just really small...but its forsure a little hole. Will it heal on its own?

Its Saturday now...is this something I should be going to a walkin clinic about? Or can it wait until I see the Surgeon on Monday?

Im quite concerned....

Call your surgeon's after hours number and get his/her opinion. It's better to be safe than sorry. Mine oozed a bit like that and I learned it was slightly infected and had to take antibiotics. Best of luck!

I agree with Amanda. Call the doc's after hours number and let them know what's going on. Your doc may say to wait until Monday, but better safe than sorry. :)

I didn't have a VSG but i did have a Tummy Tuck and i remember a part in the line where i was sewn opened up like a hole about the size of a pea and was oozing. i went to a walk in medical clinic and they did a quick stitch after cutting away a bit of the skin around the incision. used those gel bandaids, along with polysporin, they worked GREAT. Good luck with your healing!

I agree- call your doc- I wanted to put neosporin on mine too to help with healing/scarring and my doc said NO not now- they are healing from inside out and it isnt healthy to have a "wetness" on the wounds. They need to "air dry".

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
