monty 18 Posted November 26, 2011 I am 7 weeks out and have intense ice cravings. I read some place that this can be a sign of anemia. I am curious if this has happened to anyone else. I read that seasoning food helps with taste and also wonder if it is due to those spices-nothing real hot-salt, pepper, chopped garlic, onions etc. As always any feedback is greatly appreciated. 100%Sleeved 148 Posted November 26, 2011 Hi Monty, Ice cravings are definitely a sign of anemia. I was cronic anemia and ate ice all day everyday until I went to see a blood specialists. She gave me Iron infusions and now I can't stand ice. Please get your iron levels checked. My body does not asorb iron so I have to get it through iv and now I have more energy. I know we all are different but it's worth looking in to. I hope this helps.
Lissa 2,631 Posted November 26, 2011 you definitely need to have your Iron levels checked. I've never met anyone who ate ice constantly that was NOT anemic. Get thee to a doctor asap. It's a huge issue, especially after being sleeved because you are not going to be able to correct the anemia through diet alone. Good luck!!
italianlady13 80 Posted November 26, 2011 I agree with getting your levels checked...it can also be a sign of pica which occurs when nutrients are low....like people who eat dirt, poop etc etc etc
monty 18 Posted November 27, 2011 Thanks for your help. I will be getting my blood work done when I see my Primary Phy. when I fly home in a week.. I am not feeling tired at all,was one of my clues when I would get injections for anemia. . If anything I am not getting enough sleep. I have not seen him since my surgery so I'll have to mention both of these issues. Thanks again!
