Brand New Here And 10 Days Post-op

Recommended Posts

I had sleeve surgery on Nov 15th and am doing quite well. I started my journey in Oct 2010 but had to delay my surgery this past Spring because my mom got in bad health. She was doing much better by the end of August so I immediately jumped back in to my program. I'm still on liquids and very tired of the shakes, powder Soups, and puddings but I just force them down. Will be glad to move to purees in a few days. I am down 20 lbs from Nov 10th to now and have no hunger at all. Though my sleeve growls and reminds me of eating times. I think I'm currently holding about 2 ounces at a time, is that pretty normal? I know they've told me I will hold about 4 ounces max later on.

Sounds normal to me, at two weeks I was down 17 pounds and 4 weeks around 30. As for ounces, just depends. Around month 2 I was eating pretty normal and ending month 4 I can eat a small salad, a 1 inch cube of meat, 1/2 baked potato or other vegetables and some fruit later for desert.

I prefer to think in terms of volume not ounces. Your stomach is the size of a small to medium banana and you can fit more than 2 ounces in there. Just go slow as you stomach is still healing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
