Ok so I'm 1 day post op and I started my liquids today ,

It hurts terrible that I can even sip , it hurts pretty bad to swallow .

Today I could not even eat SF Jello no mater how long I chew it

When it goes down hurts terribly . Does this gets better at my 2nd or 3rd day? The

most that is bothering me in the chest pain , it feels so tight :(.

I been walking and trying to sip but nothing improves it.

I really hope I can drink better tomorrow . How many days does it

takes for the pain when swallow even Water to go away? I'm exhausted and thristy and when

I sip is a nightmare!!! :(

Oh I am not sure why your experiencing this. I am post op 2 days and have had no issues swallowing. I do feel crampy and a lil tight in my chest but no pain while drinking. Maybe u have a lot of gas that needs to be released. Keep walking take sum gas x strips and talk to your doctor. It should get better.

Are you drinking cold liquids? Cold liquids are uncomfortable going down for me. I was sleeved on the 15th, so 9 days ago. I have to stick with room temp or warm liquids. Also, make sure you are on an acid reducer and Gas-X strips (the pkg states that you can take 2 strips...I just figured that out yesterday, LOL!)

This issue of the pain when swallowing has gotten better for me. But, if I sip too much, it does hurt. SO, my advice is to sip teeny sips, as little air as possible, and choose warm drinks.

It might even be worth giving the Dr a call if you are terribly miserable...also utilize your pain meds!!!

Best of luck & YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

I had this pain when drinking and eating for about a week or week and a half after surgery. It eventually just went away and I don't have it (I'm 3 weeks post op) I think a lot of it was gas pain probably from when they fill your belly with gas during surgery. Have patience, it does get better!

I had the same problem! I was sleeved on Tues December 6th and the Dr also fixed a hiatal hernia I didn't know I had.

I was miserable the first day, the gas was horrendous and I could barely get anything including Water down.

I have been using gas ex, tums, levsin, and a heating pad. I'm also taking 30mls of the loratab elixir every 4 hrs. I tried to stop the pain meds last night but I was so uncomfortable without it I changed my mind.

Today, 2nd day home from the hospital it is much better.

Now I'm just worried, am I drinking too much, am I going to stretch my sleeve, etc etc.

Hope you feel better soon!!

Hang in there, I don't think I ate anything for 3 days and no way did I get all my fluids in!!

Each day got a little better though!!

YES!! I am 4 days out and i feel 100 times better today. Gas is almost gone, it is actually finding a way out! It did hurt when I would swallow, I think it's all that trapped gas that can't get out. Just keep sipping, I meam SIP. I take tiny baby sips, just enough to coat my throat. I nurse that 30 ml cup for the full 15 minutes. That is what helped me. I am better now. Woke up this morning with no pian, haven't taken any pain meds today, moving a little quicker. You will get over your hump. It's only temporary.

Oh Girl, I hear ya! My surgery was Wednesday morning. My throat was so sore from the breathing tubes plus the bougie tube. Worst sore throat of my life! I can hardly drink even Water hurts. I'm scared because I know I am not drinking even 16 oz of Fluid a day. liquid gets stuck at the bottom of my esophagus until finally something triggerts the esophagus sphinster to open just a little to let the water trickle into my stomach. In the meantime my esophagus is gurgling and burping. Funny noises come out my mouth and it hurts waiting for the sphinster to open. I need to stand up when attempting drinking. I know I'd be doing a lot better if I didn't have this drain tube. I can feel it inside and it's making me real uncomfortable. When I clean it the suction puts me in great pain. It doesn't come out until next Tuesday. I think all we can do is keep trying to drink just the smallest sips and wait for it to get better like they say it will. I'm also coughing up stuff from my lungs are you? That hurts a lot also. Hang in there and believe what they say it will get better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
