SleeveDreamer 383 Posted November 24, 2011 I am so excited to know that my sleeve surgery has been scheduled for Dec. 14th. Luckily I do not have but about 50 lbs. to lose, but 60% of my body weight is fat and it is all in my abdomen. I am always out of breath after walking or climbing stairs, and the doctor said the weight must go. I have very skinny legs, and the excess weight in my mid-section is killing me. I only have to be on the pre-op liquid diet for 5 days. I have a huge hiatal hernia (about 1/3 of my stomach) has protruded up onto my chest cavity. This was discovered when I had my upper GI last week to see what was going on in there, so he knew how to reverse the surgery i had in 1999. I had Nissen Fundiplication surgery to fix my horrible GERD in 1999. All these years I thought it was good, and now from the results of the GI, the previous surgery has completely undone itself. I started having reflux symptoms again a few months ago, but thought I was crazy. It must be fixed! The connectors from that surgery are kind of floating around on my stomach! EEK! I had already planned on the sleeve, but my insurance would not cover it since my BMI was 3 points off! However it will pay for the entire amounts of the first hour of the surgery which will be to repair the hiatal hernia and get my stomach back down where it belongs. So I freaked out and called the hospital to set up a payment plan for the uninsured part, and then after I found out how much I needed down and including the doctor's part, got on Care Credit and applied, and instantly had enough to pay for the doctor and down payment for the hospital. I have watched the sleeve surgery on YouTube, and since I am not afraid of surgery I am looking forward to it. I saw this website and have been reading everyone's posts for a few weeks. You have answered any questions I have had so far. You have a great support system and I know I will enjoy being a part of it. I know it will not take me a long time to reach my goal (I lost 40 lbs. almost instantly in 1999 with the previous surgery) and I have a good attitude, so I know it will be successful. Looking forward to talking with all of you. Some of your weight-loss stories amaze me! Happy Thanksgiving! Janet
