Has Anyone Used Dr. Almanza In Tijuana For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I went to Dr. Almanza on Aug 26th 2011 and have had no problems! The nurses were very attentive and nice. I am down 103 pds since aug 1st of this year!! Not too shabby!! Anything can happen with any Dr. anywhere!!! He is very experienced and you can feel comfortable with that part of it. As far as the recovery house and the fact that the clinic is in a strip mall, well thats something you can deal with or you can't!! Dr. Almanza himself, is very good at what he does!!

you should write a list down of what you are looking for in a doctor, even price. this is what i'm doing while i'm searching for a doctor.

one of the most important things for me is aftercare. yes every doctor can make a horrible mistake, no matter how nice or experienced they are, if you have surgery and end up with some part of your body perforated or an artery slit, is the place where you had surgery or even the place where you are recovering after equipped to save your life? do they have an ICU? blood available? round the clock care with machines checking your vitals often enough to notice a drop in blood pressure if you are going into shock from blood loss?

i'm really picky, i need to have all of that available in case i'm one of the 1% who gets a dreadful accident or complication.

Mt. Zion is the same as Jerusalem clinic ( http://mtzionmedical.../contact-us.php ) . I had my surgery 12/6/10 and have had a huge success with little to no issues, the only issue has been with kidney stones due to my not drinking enough Water, but this cannot be attributed to the surgery, only my own issues with nausea post op and not keeping up with my liquids. I had a good experience with them.

HOWEVER, and it's a BIG however - there are some posts in the forum here about issues with the place and the staff. There was also an armed robbery at the recovery house earlier this year. Due to these issues I will no longer recommend the center.

Please use the search utility in the forum and dig up the post and make your own decision.

I had surgery in a hospital here in the states and I had my credit card and ID stolen out of my wallet that was locked away - should I not recommend ever having surgery in that hospital because of a thief? No. I would recommend having someone hold on to your wallet though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
