Just when you think you have things under control and are following what you're supposed to be doing, WHAM, you get a wakeup call saying no, no, no you're not!

In the past, whenever I would lose weight I would start self sabotaging at the slightest hint of failure. This was a subconsious thing that even I was unaware of and only realized it when my therapist pointed it out.

Now, here I am down 21 lbs since surgery, 39 lbs total, 9" smaller, and down two sizes. I actually have caught myself trying to self sabotage for no apparent reason. I figured out that if I drink soon after I eat then I can have more. What have I done for the past few days?? Exactly that. DUH! I even posted replies here about not doing this.

Luckily, I have only gained 0.2 lbs this week but man oh man, why do I do this to myself?? Rhetorical question of course because I know the answer. It's easier to be invisible than to shine. Am I really that lazy that I would rather be obese and unnoticed than normal weight and be noticed? Again, I know the answer. NO!! I'm done with the "Fat Girl"! I divorced her and she came back around again! I guess I have to get a dang restraining order! :boxing_smiley:

Seriously though, I took a step back, saw what I was doing, admitted to it, and now I am going to fix it! Sticky notes all over the house saying the following may help:

I can do this! :hurray: I am worth it! :hurray:I deserve to be happy! :hurray:I am a smart person! :hurray: I am Beautiful! :hurray:

I have done the same in the past! For sure. But this time is different. People have seen my weight go up and down all the time. They knew I would fail. I still think even with my sleeve people think I am going to fail. But its not an option this time. We can do this! Thanks for the post!!

Shae, I'm thrilled that you realized what you were doing and stopped it in its tracks!! You are doing great and you WILL succeed at this. I'm counting on you, because you motivate me to stay on track, too. :)

My weight has been stalled for a few days, so I started using My Fitness Pal. For some reason, I do NOT want to log in there that I ate something really bad for me. :) It's built-in accountability for me. Are you using it? I thought I could do it with a book to log food into, but I caught myself "forgetting" to write things down. Now I log while I'm eating. It makes me stop and think about what's going down my throat.

You're doing great and you're working that sleeve! That's a great thing! :)

Shae,

You're a sleeve success story!! Thanks for sharing your story. It is a scary time of year for me with so much food around.

I read something interesting today. It said that flexing your muscles improves willpower. So they recommended making a fist when trying to resist something, like an extra helping at the buffet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
