Struggling A Bit

Recommended Posts

hi all,

looking for some advice. i had the band in 2008 and was revised to the sleeve in 2010. my lowest weight has been 145 lbs but i usually stayed between 145 and 149. i went on a cruise in september and even came home losing a lb, but since then my weight has crept up and today it was 152. i know its not a ton but dont want it to get out of control. what did everyone do when in this situation

Follow the 5% rule - once you regain 5% of your weight past goal it's time to jump back on the good eating bandwagon. Reevaluate your eating habits and log your food for a whole week. I bet you'll find the culprit!

This is not a huge regain. If you jump on it right now with small corrections you'll be fine. What you don't want to do is let it go and find yourself up more than ten pounds after the holiday season.

Also consider what else is going on in your life. Got stress? New medication? Are you out having social cocktails more frequently? Any of those things could explain the small bump up you've noticed on the scale.

Good luck. I firmly believe that weighing at least weekly is the very best way to keep ourselves accountable and on the right track. It's all too easy to slip into denial and find yourself battling a larger regain.

I so agree with Cheri. It's time to start weighing your food again and watch your caloric intake. Drink your Water and continue doing your excerise. Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing

I am going through the same thing right now. I went through a rough period in my life, and I know what caused my gain, I went back comforting myself with salty, crunchy foods. I am going to probably either do weight watchers online, or download a good food tracking app for my phone to help get myself back on track. I agree, watching and recording everything you eat will help. Come on girl, together, we can get back on track!

I decided not to spend the money on weight watchers online when there are a ton of good programs available for download on my Android phone. I just downloaded My Net Diary, and will see how I like it. They have an online site as well that you can sync to. I have heard really good things about My Fitness Pal too. I think what is important is we start tracking what we are eating, hold ourselves accountable and get back into our good eating habits again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
