Vsg Overeating/purging -- Bulimia Or Inability To Cope With The Sleeve?!

Recommended Posts

I think this was an incredibly brave post. I also had a lap band go wrong, but I got accustomed to the eating and automatically purging pretty much purposely. That went on for 3 years because the scar tissue had built up within my band passage so badly. Now that the band is gone and I have been sleeved, I struggle on a daily basis not to follow that same pattern. The comfort of "eating" and not having to worry about it be real eating, real consumption of food. Some days I fail, and until I read this thread I honest-to-God believed I was completely isolated in this.

Basically, I just wanted to say thanks for putting this out there. I hope you overcame your difficulties, and I sincerely hope I can do the same before I mess things up royally.

I hope you seek out a therapist soon....

I just read your past posts and I'm concerned that you have a skewed perception of body image and perhaps and underlying eating disorder?

The sleeve will not fix these things. But you can seek a disordered eating specialist to help

You work through them. So you can lead a happier and healthier life..

Talk with your surgeon. I was having similar isses with only eating very little and throwing up. I did not purge deliberately but recently realized I could eat more and if it was too much I would throw up. I went to my md and he did an endoscopy and an upper GI study which showed Ihad a twist in my stomach. It formed a little pouch so it is acting like I still have the band. I am now in the process of geting ready for the bypass. I never wanted one but it is the fix for my problem and who wants to feel like the hsve a band with all its issues. Hopefully I will have the surg soon or I will have to wait til january cause I am going on a cruise for Christmas and I want to be on regular food. Hope you find out what the problem is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
