Would Love A Gastric Sleeve Surgery Mentor

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am scheduled for surgery one week from today (11/28/11) and would really like to have a mentor. I am 40, mom of a 7 and 5 year old and happily married to hubby for 8 years now. We live in Virginia and I'm an RN. Starting wt. 314 (also highest weight ever) and current weight 278. I am non-insulin dependent diabetic, have hypertension and sleep apnea with a CPAP. Ready to get healthy!!!!

Hi Kacey... I don't know I'm in a position to mentor being only 9 days post op myself. Though I have lived through the bariatric regime and restriction for 5 years as with a band. I am so excited for my future and I'm sure you too will be feeling that. Any help I can give, please just give me a shout and it's so nice to make new friends who share experiences. Best wishes Kacey and keep in touch, Fiona x

Hi Chrissy... I am on day 2 of pureed and to be honest, I've not had a single problem... getting the band out has been the best decision I have made. I know a lot of people have some nausea when they first start eating again... I've had nothing. I am also able to swallow my anti acid tablets and Vitamins ( which are the size of horse pills!!) without any difficulty at all. I am back in for my first day in work tomorrow (boo hoo) but so lucky to be feeling so good.. You have had your band a long time... don't know how you coped for all that time.. Take care CHrissy and best wishes.., Fiona

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
