I am almost 1 week post-op, and there is 1 incision that hurts, especially when I cough/sneeze.

But also almost directly on the other side of me on my back, theres something there that hurts too...

Its on my left side...tummy area, and left side back area...

anyone else have back pain?

Gas bubbles get trapped inside your body and have to work their way out after surgery. I was having severe shoulder pain. It was gas. At week three it got better. This too shall pass. Gas X does seem to help. Also having my hubby chop massage my back helped too. Good luck!

It only seems to hurt after moving around a bit...after too much walking around, the area of the 1 incision hurts, and my back at the same time. A heating pad seems to give some relief once it is hurting...and then after sitting for a bit it goes away. But once I get mobile again, it takes no time really and the pain is back. That's gas??? I sure hope it passes...it really makes life difficult. LOL I know Im only 1 week out, so I shouldn't complain. I just dont see my surgeon until the 2 week mark, so if its something thats irregular Id like to get it checked out sooner...

Gas-X was a miracle drug for me 1 week post op. I too had some pretty severe back pain, lower right side, I think mine was gas too. Another possibility, just remember too that you had some muscles cut into and since they all work together, you're back might be reacting. Whether you noticed or not, you have/are sitting different or even walking or laying different. Subtle changes can effect other parts of the body.

If it's not getting any worse, just treat it like you are now. Heat pad, hot shower, buy some gas-x..you are still storing it, believe it or not.

Do you have spasm medication, or did the Dr give it to you? Does it help?

Yes, yes and yes! My back actually hurts worse than my belly and I'm only 3 days post op. The nurse also offered me a pneumonia shot since I care for my elderly mother in law who is a cancer patient, and the site of the injection hurts more than my belly!

I had pretty bad gas pains on day one and day two. I passed my first air today and let me tell you it helped! Shoulder pain, chest pain, and back pain, and they're all getting better with passing the air.

It is fairly common I think!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
