I Really Thinknim Gonna Die !

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved thursday. It's now Saturday. I'm sore as hell and have horrible gas that won't rest even with walking. Does this ever go away? I feel miserable and wished I would have not done it now. How soon should I feel relief? hELp!!!

I feel you pain. I was sleeved Oct 20th of this year. I felt yucky for about a week and a half and I slept on the recliners during that time it just helped. I used a heating pad on my shoulders for the gas pain as well as walk, walk, walk, and try to keep sipping on something. I'm out four weeks and down 27lbs I felt the same way the first week but now im 100% better, back to work and all. Now I would do it again tomorrow if I had too. Take your pain meds if you need them and keep sipping.

Smiles!!!

You will feel this way for a very short time and then once you are rested and have allowed yourself some time to heal you will be just fine. Then you will look back on this and say "oh I'm so glad I got over that because this is the best thing I have ever done for myself". I had this same feeling for two days after my surgery and then I just made sure I did not lay around and let the gas collect. I went about business as usual and I felt great in about three weeks. The dizziness was the worst part for me....

Needachange:

Hang in there!!! You CAN do this! I was sleeved Tuesday. I know your pain although I realize we all have different tolerances, different incisions, etc... Here are my recommendations:

1) Gas-X strips!

2) Walk!

3) Are you on an acid reducer? I was prescribed Protonix and take it 1x every day.

4) Big sips will HURT...so take small sips for now (this gets better quickly as swelling goes down).

5) Try room temp or heated liquids. I feel less pain with heated liquids like broths, teas, hot chocolate (bariatric, of course). Cold liquids hurt me more going down.

6) Take your pain medicine as directed. Stay ahead of the pain. I took mine sometimes an hour ahead of schedule on an every-6-hours regimen. It worked for me.

7) Get plenty of rest so your body can heal.

If you are too miserable, do not hesitate to call your doctor's office. They have been thru this with lots of people, so they may know something different that we don't know that could help you. It may be that your pain meds aren't managing the pain & you may need a different one.

Feel better soon!!! Positive thoughts and prayers for you!

Stacey

I felt so much better at day 4 and back to normal( I think) about day 7. By two weeks I felt like a new person. A wonderfully happy new person.

I agree that you should call your doc's office and let them know you're in mega-pain. It DOES get better very quickly, but you should practice the tiny sips (use a teaspoon or a tiny medicine cup to make your sips smaller). The heating pad may help, and there is NO reason for you to be "brave" and not take the pain meds. Your doc gave them to you for a reason...THIS is the reason.

In a few days, you will feel much, much better. If you're not nearly back to human by Monday, you should be IN the doctor's office looking for relief.

Tums, gas-x strips and/or an acid reducer will help, as will the walking.

Good luck and congrats on being sleeved!

Yes the gas is VERY bad rght after surgery but it does get better. I am 4 weeks out though and still do have gas daily, though not as bad. Not sure why. Gas X strips dont seem to help so I am wondering if it is lactose intolerance now....

Hang in there, it DOES get easier / better!! promise!

Hi! I know how you feel. I was sleeved on the 9th and had a hell of a time and I am still just getting over the hump. I have regrets with not asking for more pain meds. If you are in pain then take them! You should not be in pain! I was crying for 4 days straight before I finally went back and got more meds and the drained removed. Mine was hitting my lung and causing breathing issues. I also could not stand straight and was having severe back pain., Now, I had complications and was in the hospital for 6 days(2 in the ICU) developed and infection where my port from my lap band was removed.

Keep your head up! It was hard but each day the pain does get better. I hope to be able to exercise by next weekend. I have learned that i will never take my body for granted again. The experience that I went through but was not pleasant but I hope the results will end up outweighing the bad.

In another three to four days you will really start feeling better. Nothing got rid of the gas for me but time. I know it's hard to be patient right now, and trust me, no one complained more than I did, but you WILL feel better shortly

Gax X strps can be your best friend during this time.

They were mine too. I was sleeved on the 31st. All I can say and it's reiterating what everyone one else has said. It will pass. And if it's gas, it will pass! The Gas-X and moving is the best thing you can do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
