Chrissy,

There are tons of Protein products out there. You can order online from a host of places, including Amazon.com, unjury, Bariatric Advantage, etc. If you're new to Protein shakes/drinks, I suggest going to the sites and ordering or asking for samples of their products.

I personally like the Click brand of Protein powder that is sold several places, but others have had good luck with other brands. Walmart, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, and Sams sell several kinds of Protein Powder, Protein Bars, etc. Make sure you're getting whey isolate protein powder so that you get one that is readily available for your body to make use of it.

Walgreens sells some Protein Shots that have collagen protein in them. According to the weight lifters' boards, that kind of protein is not readily available for our bodies to use.

Whatever you do, don't over-buy on the protein powders, even if you adore the flavor pre-op. My taste buds (and many others) have changed radically since surgery. I can't handle the sweet flavored Protein shakes anymore. They make me gag. I drank a lot of chicken and beef broth when I was early post-op. That gave me liquid and some protein when I couldn't handle anything else.

Do read the thread about what to buy for after surgery. Smaller cups, silverware and plates will make it easier when you transition to mushies and then to solid foods. A food scale and an accurate measuring cup for liquids are also very handy.

Good luck on your journey!! :)

I like one Protein before surgery and another after so the best thing I think you can do is buy it from a place where you can return it if you dont like it. GNC has a no questions asked returns and you can return it after you try it. I like the delicious strawberry flavor of Gold Standard100% whey ...but it is only good mixed with milk...during my preop and losing stages after surgery I only mixed with Water because I didnt want the calories or carbs of milk so I prefered a fruit punch flavor that sorta tasted like crystal light. You will just need to start trying them but they are expensive so make sure you can return them. Good Luck to you!

Sorry Kathy I have no idea how to work the ticker my husband had to do it for me:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
