Third Time Is The Charm With Bcbsil!

Recommended Posts

WOOHOO!! :party4: :party4:

After months of calling and stalling BCBSIL has finally approved my surgery! It's a go for Dec. 5th! To tell the truth I'm still a little shocked. They gave me so many different BS excuses about why they kept denying me that all I was expecting was a no again! I had heard from many people that BCBSIL was one of the toughest insurances to get approved with and that most people get denied at least once by them. To all those who do have BCBSIL, stick with it! Don't give in! It only gets better from here.

Congratulations...... I do not have BCBSIL, but my 3rd request to Aetna was mailed out yesterday. I am hoping for a very Merry Christmas approval. :-) You have given me hope... I wish you the best of luck with your surgery.

Congrats! I too have BCBSIL and was denied twice before being approved & the two denials were for stupid reasons... Like the Drs notes not being detailed enough etc. However I stuck with it & I was sleeved this past Monday!!

Good luck with your surgery, I am sure you will doe amazingly well!

@ favoredone - I hope you get approved right away but if you don't it's not the end. You can immediately appeal! Just call and call and call! I lucked out when I spoke to a very helpful rep who gave me her extension to call back and check. She went as far as to speak with the review board and show them exactly where the info they wanted was. Even with all that help it still took a while. If you hit a bump in the road don't be afraid to msg me. I still have the rep's # if you ever need it. Good luck! =)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
