Sleeved On Monday... Lurking For A Year

Recommended Posts

So I was sleeved on Monday here in Southern California...

Got several random questions...

How long after until I can eat spicy again?

When does it become easier to swallow? (I feel like there is a pressure pushing back and i can't tell if it's acid reflux or gas or swollen organs)

How close can the stomach stretch back to its original size?

What are your problem foods that you liked beforehand and now do not?

When did you start sleeping on your stomach again?

Any wound problems?

Thanks for the info!!

Congratulations on your new life!!! I'm only 6 weeks out myself, but hopefully I can help some!

Spicy foods - my doctor said to wait until at least 3 months out. I took a bite of very spicy chili last week and my tummy burned all evening. Not fun!!

Swallowing - the first week was horrible!!! My doctor said that everything was really swollen and I should expect this possibly for weeks. Luckily I just had it for that first one though. I sipped Gatorade and didn't stress about shakes or Protein during that time. I was focusing on staying hydrated and getting those electrolytes.

Stretching - I really don't know the answer to this one, but I do know that after about a year out people talk about feeling like they can eat more. Might want to consult your doctor on this.

Problem foods - I think this may be different for everyone. I'm having issues with some dairy right now. Not all, just some.

sleeping - I found that if I tucked a pillow under my belly, I could pretty much sleep on my tummy just a few days out.

Wounds - I washed my wounds daily and had very few problems. My stitches were itchy and it took nearly 6 weeks for the final one to fall off. (Yep, just happened this week).

I haven't tempted spicy yet.

I had a very swollen stomach for the first month ( mornings are usally tighter, but warm liquid helps)

How close can the stomach stretch back to its original size?

You can stretch it back out, I even have heard of someone getting the surgery again! That should not

be something in the back of your head as a plan. The goal is to under eat so you don't get stretched out.

What are your problem foods that you liked beforehand and now do not?

There are foods that just aren't worth it. You start to think of foods for protien instead of quantity. I had 1 bite of a subway sandwich and was full, however, that bite didn't have enough protien for a full meal. It was a waste of a meal.

When did you start sleeping on your stomach again?

N/A

Any wound problems?

I had a problem on my left side. I was told not to pick up 30 lbs for a month. I have 3 toddlers that needed holding and I ripped it open several times.I finally have a scab.

Got several random questions...

How long after until I can eat spicy again?

I love spicy... I had to stay away from acid foods like Tomato and lime for 8 weeks, and started trying a little spicy after that... no go. At 10 months I can eat spice/chili like I did before without my stomach burning. It took a while, but I am sooo glad I can eat it again! Just take your time, don't rush it. Things will get better in the future.

When does it become easier to swallow? (I feel like there is a pressure pushing back and i can't tell if it's acid reflux or gas or swollen organs)

Each body is different, but just follow the diet plan, take it slow, small sips and it will get better day by day.

How close can the stomach stretch back to its original size?

I don't believe that it will stretch back to the original size ever. Do measure your food, and under eat your sleeve. You do not want to eat until pain. The stomach relaxes and the amount you can eat will get larger and larger to a point. It looks like it levels out around 8-10 months. Studies show that there can be a weight bounce around 3 years, so just keep an eye out on your habits... you can eat anything at some point, but stay conscious and eat Protein first for best results.... and no drinking with or after food.... ever.

What are your problem foods that you liked beforehand and now do not?

I was lactose intolerant at first... being a vegetarian, that made getting my Protein in hard... at about 8 weeks I could eat dairy again. I hated sweet at first...no problem now!

When did you start sleeping on your stomach again?

never did N/A

Any wound problems?

no

Thanks for the info!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
