Today (Nov 18th) I'm 2 months out from my VSG

Recommended Posts

I am down 57lb and I feel great. My face is smaller and my feet are narrower. I lost 3% bodyfat and I am not sure what my BMI is because I don't put much stock into it. I'm about getting a healthy BF%. Anyways, I am now 383lb and not 440lb which is great only two months out.

Dr Teng is gonna flip! My next appointment is January 30 and he had a target of 375lb when I see him then. I track my total weight loss by splitting the LBM and BF%. Thus far I lost 20lb of LBM and 37lb of BF. I think now is where I will stop losing as much muscle because I have been back into my weight lifting. And I don't do too much. I walk home from work (3-4 days a week) & use my kettlebells 4-5 times weekly for less than 5min at a time. I do need to dial in a better supplement routine. For anyone struggling pre-op with carb cravings, I highly recommend taking 500mcg of Chromium Picolinate in the morning. It helped me curb (not eliminate) a big carb thing.

People at work notice my loss more than I do. If it weren't for my scrubs being looser I wouldn't notice. The only "downside" is that I've become slightly narcissistic. I will catch myself gazing at my reflection periodically. I can only hope that I get to enjoy more of this. I like seeing the scale move in the right direction for a change.

Rock on!! I think it's great that you've checked yourself out. I've only lost 24lbs and I was checking out my flatter tummy in the mirror this weekend. My scrubs are much more baggy too. Especially in the tush area. I'm loving it! Can't wait until I can get into what I call "my cute scrubs". After I gained too much weight to wear them, I put them in a box and vowed that some day I will wear them again. I think you BF% tracking is awesome. I think I will do something similar. I'm an athlete DEEP down inside. I still play on a weekly volleyball league and love sports. I wouldn't want to lose muscle mass. I need those muscles to kick butt in vball! LOL! Plus I would like to have a femine but athletic figure. You're doing a great job. Keep it up!

57 pounds in 2 months that's fantastic!!! All of your hard work is truly paying off. Just imagine how much more you'll lose between now and your next appointment. Your doctor really will flip. Keep up the good work and congratulations of a job well done.

Cheers!

Niki

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
