Just Beginning My Gastric Sleeve Journey

She might be able to deny your leave based on it being elective surgery. Make sure she understands that by using the holidays, you will be minimizing your lost time.

i see your point about the fact that WLS is still "considered elective surgery"

Being considered elective surgery is nuts. I think in the future that might change (not considering its elective )

Your health will be totally improved by the surgery, and thats what she needs to understand -with the weight loss, you will be more mentally and physically ready to work with your excess weight being initially removed, then the long journey ahead.

This is not a vanity thing.(she might incorrectly think it is) With you being more healthy you might not have to lose some time due to illnesses that might occur if you didn't have the sleeve. Sending good wishes your waysmile.png

Good luck with this - i hope everything work out for you - keep us posted. kathy

We all know the sleeve is just a "tool", but its the tool that will help you lose all that weight.

wow, so sorry to hear that--that is crazy. not that you should have to share your personal information with her, but it may come down to talking about all the things this surgery will help you with, if you have comorbid conditions. i agree with likasulema about speaking with someone else (over her head?) if she continues to deny. i hope this all works out for you...

I talked to human resourses, cause she wants a conference call with HR and the director of nursing about the timing of surgery,. I read up about FMLA, if you meet critieria hours worked ect. they don't have the right to deny you. If the Dr. says it's neccessary, it is. You employer does not even have the right to even ask yow what the pricedure is.

THIS IS TOTAL BULLCRAP! and i have to do what's right for me. I shouldn't let this sap the joy out of this

thats sad that she could be so heartless! smh! who the hell does she think she is to pick & choose when you have SURGERY! not a day out shopping. not what time you have break. not what time you come in for work but surgery? she has nerve!

3 days out know and slowly learning the difference between a sip and a drink--drinks hurt! i'm also having pain all in my belly, now that the on-q is gone--especially where the drain was placed. now it just a big ol hurtin hole. i guess it could be worse though--i don't have a fever or anything, and i chose lortab elixir over morphine so could be away at least a little while each day :) anyone else having all over belly pain and drain pain? i have to keep reminding myself that it's only been 3 days, so i'm not really worried yet, just tre uncomfortable...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
