RhondaLynn 10 Posted November 14, 2011 I am 12 days post op. I have noticed a terrible "taste" in my mouth that is not my NORMAL bad taste. My daughter came to visit this past weekend and said I had horrible breath. (hubby can hardly smell due to afrin overuse). What I'm asking is has anyone else had the bad taste and bad breath? It is not a metalic (blood) taste but it is a weird taste. Rhonda

SuperMom 33 Posted November 14, 2011 YES YES YES AND YES..........you better just go ahead and get a tongue scraper (walgreens dental section really cheap) weirdness "grows" on my tongue....heard it is due to ketones???not sure but never had this before surgery and seems to be worse the weeks/days that I drop pounds...so prob true....good news is....still dropping weight! Scraping the weirdness off my tongue made the bad breath go away so now I do it daily with brushing my teeth in am.

PdxMan 4,292 Posted November 14, 2011 Do a search on here for Ketosis. Acetone builds up in your mouth and causes everything to taste funky and your breath goes foul. Been there, done that. Talked to my NUT and she suggested I up my carbs a bit. I was only getting about 20g a day and she wanted me closer to 40-50. Did the trick and I got my energy levels up a bit, too.
