I am post-op, no surgery date yet but it will probably be just after Thanksgiving. Anyway, my question is this: I have heard about a lot of different Protein powders and shakes and I was wondering if anyone knew where we can get samples of the different varieties to see if we are going to like them before buying a whole box full. I'm also wondering if there is a tasteless, unscented powder that we can add to our own broths and shakes to make them protein - especially if the protein varieties are gross. I know that our tastes will probably change post-op so I don't plan on buying too much before surgery but a lot of these powders have to be ordered and I would hate to pay shipping on a case of product and then not like it.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Unjury see a sample pack that includes 2 packets each of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry sorbet, chicken Soup and unflavored. I added 1/2 a scoop to a small carton of greek yogurt and couldn't even tell it was there.

Go to the food forum and you'll find a whole list of places you can get samples.< /p>

If you have a GNC near you, they will let you return things you don't like. It's smart not to buy much before surgery, because people's taste for things does change. I bought an unflavored Protein powder at GNC but it is not tasteless. If I put it in something with a strong flavor, such as crystal lite, it wasn't too bad.

You can also get unflavored from unjury, and I'm sure they have samples listed in the food forum.

Tons of samples. Good luck!

Also, GNC will let you buy and return unused portions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
