Weight Loss 14 months out

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone out there is 14 months, or more, post-op? I have lost 122lbs, but seem to be stuck at my current weight. I think the problem is, most likely, that my diet has slipped back into the "if I just eat a little it won't hurt" frame of mind. I haven't gained any weight back, but the scale is stuck! I've read that you can start over with the post-op diet to reprogram your body, and I was wondering if anyone has tried this, and if it works? I seem to have lost the motivation to focus on healthy eating and, instead, have been eating what's convenient. Today, I have decided to try this and see what happens. I have to admit, I felt much better immediately post-op with the diet, exercise, and Vitamins than I do now, so in my head I know this is the way to go. I'm just looking for anyone to offer some input. Thanks!

I am 16mths out and although I don't lose pounds on a regular basis... I am still losing, just very slowly. My body, at this stage, seems to drop 2-4lb over several weeks... then goes in to a long stall... then drops another 2-4lb over several weeks... you get the picture. This has been happening since around Feb! However, I think that this cycle is also related to my hormones as I am peri menopausal (my hot flushes are really bad atm, so I know I won't lose much at this point) and therefore, my body is a little all over the place.

Have you tried the 5 day pouch test? I tried it at the beginning of the year, and although I didn't lose much weight... 2lbs I think... it really helped me focus on the 'amount' of food that I could take in and put me back in touch with portoin control. Basically you go back to a post op style diet... liquids - Soups, shakes etc for three days, then focus on Protein... might be worth a try?

Oh, and congrats on losing 122lb... that is a fantastic achievement in 14mths... you didn't mention how much more you wanted to lose?

Good luck and let me know what happened...=]

Thanks for the reply. What is the "pouch test"? Not sure I've heard of it. I have another 40lbs to lose, and I am getting stressed with not losing anything for the last couple of months. I think I will try the post-op diet idea and see what happens!! Thanks again!

Wow! 122 lbs, that's awesome! I'm scheduled for surgery next month and I long for the day I can say I'm 40lbs overweight. I think that for me the last 40lbs will just be gravy.

Congrats! Your achievement is inspiring!

So, I am only about 8 mos post-op however it has been very slow going the last few months. I decided to try My Fitness Pal and logged EVERYTHING this week and was kinda blown away at how much I had let creep back in. It wasn't much, maybe a 100-200 calories one night or two, but that basically confirmed I wasn't going to lose as much these last 2 months. It's helped me re-visit portions, quality choices and Water and excercise! I'm down 4 lbs this week, and hoping to stay on this motivation station!

Your weight loss is so amazing. But I completely understand how you feel. I'm 12 months since surgery lost 90 pounds and have about 35 pounds to go and am so afraid it won't come off. I have good restriction and I eat healthy except I have been eating to many sweets. Now with the holidays coming its going to be extra hard. I have not gained but the last month I lost only 2 pounds. Going back to basic is probably the best think we can do. Good luck, keep us updated how your doing. Janine

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
