I'm investigating the Vertical Sleeve after having my lapband out in January due to a cyst and instantly gaining it all back!

Anyway... I don't even really know how to word this so my searches came up blank, but I'll give it a go. I understand that there's a LONG section of staples that hold the 2 cut portions of the stomach together. Do those 2 portions of the stomach ever adhere or grow together? Does that make sense? I just wonder because I know one of the risks is leakage, but that risk would go away if the stomach grew together (like stitched skin).

Does anyone know? I went to a seminar but thought of that question later... go figure :)

There are many videos of the surgery online. They basically take a staple gun with two lines of stapes that cut and staple the stomach as they go. Afterwards they apply a coating to seal the outside section. For at least 4 weeks you are to avoid things with seeds so as to not get them caught internally in the staple lines. I believe over time the internal incision from the staples adhere just like any exterior cut would heal and form a scar. However, I don't know of any studies where they took a deceased person who had the surgery to open it up and find out but I would think it mends since you can eventually have strawberries, blackberries and other things with small seeds.
