Hello to all! I'll be scheduling my VSG surgery next week and am sooo excited and scared at the same time. I've done research over the past year and have finally decided to go through with the surgery. My BMI is 36 and since I had open heart surgery 5 years ago and a full hysterectomy 3 years ago I've been fighting my weight. I lose weight only to gain back more. My story is very typical. I also have Hypothyroidism, Hoshimoto's, arthritis in my hips and lower back, Fybromyalgia and osteoporosis in my neck. You could say I'm a medical mess! I'm hoping that if I lose this excess weight I will feel better physically and be able to get back in to life. I'm 5'7" and weigh 230lbs. Next Tuesday I have all my pre-op appointements. I'm very concerned about the Hair loss. I see that it is common between 3-6 months but I was wondering if people with a lower BMI experience less hair loss since there isn't as drastic of a weightloss. Does anyone with a low starting BMI know? I'll keep everyone posted through this journey in my life and I wish everyone success!!!

Well, I can only speak for myself, of course, but my BMI was 39.5 and I have had no Hair loss. But, that being said, I can't see how the two could possibly be correlated. hair loss is more of a nutrition thing, I believe. From what I understand, though, I am in the minority. I have a family history of very thick hair, so genetics probably play a part in it as well.

Agee with prior poster, no relation of bmi to hair loss.

No sense in fretting over it, it will likely happen. My started thinning at month 3 and started taking Biotin to slow it down. Truthfully, I have a friend who got hit with a freak disease that caused all his hair to fall out at once so he found a great wig maker and I am making plans once it thins enough to just cut it all off and put on a quality wig.

Thanks guys! Sleeve Guru, I look horrible in premade wigs! I guess I should seek out a wig maker too just in case!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
