PCOs permanent damage - do ovarian cysts go away?

Recommended Posts

I'm suffering from several symptoms of PCOs: weight gain, hirsutism (increased Hair growth on the face, arms and belly), irregular and often nonexistent menses, "spotting" and Patches of darker, velvety skin on the legs.

I read that the surgery might solve it. Mine is due in less than 2 weeks (yay!). However I am still worried that my eating habits caused some permanent, irreversible damage to my body. For instance, ovarian cysts, which tend to evolve into tumors sometimes. If I lose weight and kiss the other PCOs symptoms goodbye, do the cysts disappear or do they stay for good?

If you could tell from your own experiences, I'd love to hear.

I have PCOS and my symptoms are still the same. For the first couple of months I was a little more regular in terms of the menses but I went back to my irregular periods after the first two months. What I have learned from this website is that eating too many carbs can worsen the PCOS and it's symptoms. The cysts may or may not go away. I have a friend who is very thin and she has PCOS and has cysts in her ovaries. So I guess it will all depend on your body.

Good luck on your surgery!

From what I was told by my Dr, if you get down to a healthy weight, all aspects of PCOS will go away including the cysts. But I guess it all depends on your body too.

Weight loss may help with your symptoms but it really case by case. There are plenty of thin Cysters out there. Once you have PCOS you always have it but the severity of symptoms may change.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
